Default Distributor Cap Wire Order

What wire goes to what terminal on the cap? I took mine off and messed up the order. Wires are #1 though #6 with #1 starting at the firewall. My NGK wires are marked wrong with just the opposite order. Why can't all caps me marked with their corresponding cylinder? A picture would be helpful.

L6 cyl are always numbered 153624.
(15 is too young, 36 is too old, and 24 is just right)

This is what I was looking for. All sorts of diagrams out there for the 6.0 V12 but couldn't find anything on the AJ6 4.0.

Hi MSGGrunt,

You can download a mostly-complete U.K. edition of the Haynes repair manual at this link:

Here's a diagram from Haynes:

But I have read #1 starts at the firewall. My NGK wires are marked with #6 starting at the firewall.

If someone uses my cap numbering know that #1 on the cap relates to the plug closest to the firewall. Then #2 and #3 and so on, with #6 being the front most plug.

On the AJ6 engine, cylinder number 1 is at the front of the vehicle, farthest away from the firewall. Cylinder 6 is closest to the firewall.

On the older XK engines, cylinder number 1 was closest to the firewall.

Cheers,

Don
