Default Evaporator - FIXED

I am led to conclusion that my evaporator needs to be fixed due to A/C leaks one after the other .
So, how hard can it be to get it fixed ? It's said front console needs to be come off to gain access it , is that right ?

Finally, evaporator replaced by a new one and hopefully it will be ok . I no longer hear a " breathe in / out " sound which was an oddish one lol
Here are a few pics of the new evaporator which was installed

Old faulty eva on the table as you can see . I presumed something bigger lol

Hey Caddy, you are falling down on the engine cleaning. The last pics I saw of your engine, it was spotless.

Mind you I can hardly coment, my 92 looks as though it has just finished the Dakar. LOL

Cadillac.
That looks more like an expansion valve.
The evaporator looks like a heater core and is found inside the passenger compartment. They tend to get plugged up over time just like heater cores.
Most times we would replace both since they are usually side by side and a crappy thing to change and the heater core has to come out to get at the evaporator. This might not be the case with all Jags????

That's true MyBlackCat , you're right and recently I was told that another XJ40's evaporator replaced due to similar problems .
My passenger compartment was removed to access the evaporator .

The component most prone to leaks is the condenser at the front of the car near the radiator, (it is itself a min-radiator). These go because they get everything flung at the car as it drivers along, like water, and particularly, salt-water. Prognosis is they last about 10 years, unless of course, you live in the US in a sunshine state

I had the breathe-in breathe-out sound being produced whilst using the A/C. It sounded like Darth Vader! After getting the system recharged a couple of weeks ago, the sound has been eliminated. Perhaps a common sign of low refrigerant?

Nope, I don't think it's only a sign of low refrigerant but a tell tale sound that warns you about a major problem .I had heard breath in breathe out while I had almost full A/C in the system and predicted it was something more than charging A/C
