Jaguar Security System question
Is this the factory security fob? It has no battery. This car is new to me and I'm not sure what this does (when it has a battery
) It appears to only have the one button where the Jaguar logo is. Does this lock/unlock or just turn on a security system? Someone, not factory, has installed a red LED on top of the steering column. Could this be an indicator for the security system? Thanks for any info.
There is only 1 button on the key fobs that's correct and all the tasks can be done by 1 button . I ain't familiat with pre '93's system but in my Jag there is a LED in the middle of the console and it's for the security system so what you see in you car should be for security too
+1 ^, also my led on the 92 is on the steering column (near key) and my valet switch is on the underside of the column and not in the center console.
Apparently it is a Jaguar thing, to move things around, stopped the fitters from getting bored I suppose

Thank you for the insight gentlemen. Should I expect it to unlock/lock also? I have found the alarm horn/speaker under the hood but I didn't notice a brand name. The light on the steering column comes on and/or flashes when the key is removed. I suppose this means the system is armed? I'll probably find out a lot more when I get a battery for the remote
. It takes a rather odd 12v battery. I have ordered one but it is coming from Hong Kong so I will probably get it next year (and then it probably won't work...)!
Radio Shack sells the 12V battery as well as the Jaguar dealer (at least they used to)
The system can be programmed by disconnecting and reconnecting the car battery, then pressing the button 5 times (or 2 can be programmed by a comination of 5 inputs). Up to 5 keybfob transmitters can be configured to your car by pressing each button 1 time!!!
The one button system locks, unlocks, operates headlights, and boot unlatch

Thank you very much Bob. I'll run by Radio Shack and see if I can get one.
I only have to one transmitter. I guess multiple pushes of the button prompt different functions? I'll figure it out when I get a battery. Thanks again for the help.

If it works, you will see that one push does everything at the same time.
@Bob. Q. For info can you confirm that the type of transmitter shown in the pics is in fact for the 91 XJ. The reason is that my 92 has the older long rectangle one button affair with 3 batts in the end.

North America used the 318MhZ frequency and I have seen 3 different models of keyfob transmitters. The one pictured above and the two I have pictured. They all operate the same they just look different. If you order one from the dealer, you never know which one you will get!!
