My Dash Is Possessed!

This is my first post...I hope someone is familiar with my electrical problem. I have a '91 Sovereign that I purchased from the original owner. It now has 87,000 miles. Recently, my dashlights (warning, speedo, etc.) all started randomly flashing on and off. They basically light up like they would when first starting the car and then go off; the speedo and tachometer go on and off too. Sometimes they repeat 10-20 times. It makes no difference if the headlights are on or not. My Jag mechanic is stumped! He already tried replacing the entire instrument cluster (?) and it made no difference so he put mine back in. He also replaced the unit inside the headlight switch. That didn't help either. Although I doubt they are related, just before this started, I did a major tuneup and a valve job. Any ideas would be appreciated!

I hope its just the battery for your sake...lol. Always look at the cheapest solution first such as the battery as mentioned! It's weird..who knows what causes random stuff like that..my Jeep used to go haywire like that every once n a while too.
My knee jerk reaction is that it's a ground issue. However, I would think that these would have been dealt with when switching out the dash clusters. Very strange.
Did you find the problem.i just bought a 96 that started doing the same thing.A lot of the ground wires end up under the console and I think that maybe the problem, would just like some feedback before tearing out center console.
@porschefixer, it might be a while before the OP replies he is no longer an active member.
But + points for doing a search and posting into an existing thread.
However there were quite a few changes between 91 and 96, why not try a post over in the X300 section?
