The question I'm having is on the parts side. Im looking on Rockauto and finding the rear inner and outer bearings, while odd they seem to sell the race and bearings separately for the outer the inner comes as a set, most of the kits and info Im seeing only show what appears to be the rear inner seal and not the outer.
Heres what I'm finding.
Rear outer TImken Bearing LM503349A
Rear Outer Timken Race LM503310
Rear Outer National Seal. 710638. This seems harder to find. Rock auto has 8 listings for the inner but only 1 OUT OF STOCK for the outer
Rear Inner Timken set 45
Rear Inner Seal Timken 710637
Is there anything else I would need? Otherwise this doesn't seem too bad to do? All in all it looks like about $100 in parts and a few hours on the ground.
I did not read the write-up about replacement BUT.............. Don't throw the thin spacer shim in the trash with the old bearing because it does stick to the bearing.
You don't want to play the 'what size shim do I need?'
For what its worth, I JUST did this job last month. I found a kit at Moss motors with part number JLM1708 containing both bearings, races and both seals. I just checked and of course they are out of stock now. The box says EAC parts (.com) and also has the number K0025351. The bearings are Koyo brand from Japan. Hope this helps, Jerry
Koyo makes excellent bearings. Timken and SKF are also Jaguar OEMs. Toyo, NTN and *** are other top tier bearing manufacturers. These days the manufacturing processes are so precise that the roller bearing cones and races/cups can be sold separately (they used to come in matched pairs).
Thanks for the info Jerry. I have a call into a local O'Reilys for the National outer seals and they will get back to me on Monday. That kit wouldve been perfect but as you said not in stock. Hopefully it wont be to big of a deal to find the seals. I've looked on ebay and it shpws an SKF seal but the dimensions are different. It also shows a Beck/Arnley seal that says it correct Rear/outer but Ill dig a little deeper if the National doesnt show.
If anyone knows the actual Jag number for the outer seal that would help.
I usually use Barratts since they seem to use Jaguars drawings, but I frequently end up double checking at Jaguars own site- www.jaguarclassicparts.com. They give all numbers for the parts in the drawings even if they aren't available through them.

Perfect. I always prefer looking up stuff myself on anything that’s older thanks again.
Started pulling this apart and while I read the axle nuts were 1x use I didnt expect them to self destruct on removal. I am I seeing this correctly that these things are CB48J8 and are in the $40 range EACH?
On Ebay I found them at $39 each with free shipping and jaguarcary.com for $32 plus $24shipping... Im shocked anyone have a source for these?
Found them on SNG Barret for $32 with free shipping. Still looking...
Found them at EnglishParts.com for $27 but with $12 shipping so its a wash vs Barret
Well Barret won this one, damn thats pretty Jaguarish pricing for 2 lock nuts ..at least they address me as Lord.
Thanks Don. Over the years I have seen reusable TTY stuff but never on a nut like this so I was a bit surprised. I bought the ones from Barret and have made a mental not to make sure the splines and thread will be clean and to locate a good torque wrench to get the correct torque. Good info.
Back for some more... Finally got a chance to work on this and saw the lower carrier bearings are In less than great shape on one side. My question is about the seal itself. A few places like Barrets ( NOT IN STOCK) shows them with the seal attached but I have found others with out the seal. Is the seal supposed to be removable/replaceable or is it one piece?
Do you mean part 15 in this diagram? I think some Jaguar workshop documents call these "fulcrum bearings," but the parts catalog just calls it a taper roller bearing. My recollection is that the Jaguar bearings come with a rubber outer seal attached, but a separate seal could probably work too. The seals are helpful because the bearings would otherwise be exposed to the elements and be even more vulnerable to corrosion. Also, the narrow ends of the pivot pin sleeve fit through the bearings and it is common for the pivot bolt or "outer pivot pin" to rust-seize inside the sleeve:
Yes thats the part. Are you aware of the part number of just the seal? I havent seen that anywhere. Even in the dry SW I cant imagine running that without a seal and it looks like its integral to the OEM brg. Ive got one bearing thats a little worse for the wear that Im going to try and clean and lube since it really doesnt move much. If it was a spinner like a wheel bearing no but this looks salvageable with some elbow grease and lube. But if its not Im down waiting for more parts again.
Finally got the rear axles and bearing carriers back in, It went together easier than I expected. The only issue being I don't have a torque wrench that goes to 225ft lbs so I had to do it the old fashioned way. I used an old beam style to get them to 150 ftlbs and then fat boy here just stood on a breaker bar at about 16-18 inches out  Maybe a little tighter than 225 but better tighter than not tight enough.
Since I took my sweet time doing this the battery was dead so its on the charge and I'll get to drive it tomorrow. Hopefully all is well and Im done with the mechanical stuff for this year.
