Default Remote/ Alarm system.

Cleaning out the XJ40, I found the Jaguar remote under the front seat.
The car is fitted with an aftermarket radio, and the central locking system does not work. I have to attend to this first before I try to get the remote to function.
I understand that there is a sequencing procedure for the system. Based on what I read, it is front passenger door lock, rear passenger door lock, rear driver side door lock then driver side door lock.
I am going to remove the door panels to lubricate the mechanism.
If I lock or unlock the driver door with the key, should it automatically lock/unlock all of the doors?

On my 94MY car it does lock/unlock all the doors if I use the key.

I don't know if the 1990 is the same. Hopefully others will chime in and give me some direction to follow.

So the car in question is a 1990 MY?????
There are basically 3 types of XJ40 for the US market.

1988/89 3.6 liter
1990-1992 4.0 liter
1993/94 4.0 liter

They all have their slight differences, especially in electronics.

I cannot find tech info for the security system 1990-1992 cars in my .pdf folders. I probably have a bunch of paper guides for the Security System stored in plastic tubs.

Here is some info for the 1993/94.

Thanks Bob.
I removed the door panels yesterday.
I checked all the wiring and lubed up all of the mechanisms.
Result:
Using the key at the passenger front door, I can lock and unlock all four doors.
Using the key at the driver side door (USA), the driver door and both rear doors will lock, the passenger front door will not lock.
When I try to unlock the doors from the driver side only the driver door will unlock.
I also got the trunk lock to open using the switch in the glove box.
I also noticed that I can raise the passenger front window with the key.
Since I am not familiar with the XJ40, I am just winging it with my basic electrical and mechanical skills.
I don't have a clue to what switches do what.
For example, what is the on/off switch next to the cigarette lighter for.
I am searching for an Owners manual which will answer all of the trivial questions I need answered.
In the mean time I will just keep plodding along.
I am not pleased with the Haynes manual.
Besides the Owners Manual, which repair manual do you all recommend as the best available. The description of available CDs are vague. I don't want to pay for a CD that does not serve my needs. I need a manual with exploded diagrams and readable electrical schematics.
(The reason I am making this point is some time ago I bought 4 volumes of a repair manual for my Cadillac Eldorado for $170.00 on EBAY and only one of the CDs was readable. No refund, no contact with the seller, no response from Ebay.)
Sorry for the rant.

I uploaded the Electrical Guides to this forum and Gus will have them on his site as well.
You download them as .pdf. (S65_90 is the designation)

The Electrical Guide is over 5mb so it is too large to attach here.

Hey Sanchez, I have a manual here, it may be what you need, it's from an earlier car than mine - it has a number jjm 19 02 05/80 - you can have it for $15 ..unfortunately it weighs over the weight limit for a letter so it has to ship as a parcel and that will be another $15 so $30 total.

PM me if you want it, ok

Larry

@ Lawrence: Per my research, Manual jjm 19 02 05/80 is for a 1981 Series 3 Jaguar.
Thanks anyway. I will continue my search.
I just don't want to be posting petty questions on what is self explained in the owners manual.

I purchased a service manual (7 volumes)plus a parts catalog from the Jaguar Heritage site. I will browse through the volumes and see if its what I need. If not, I just squandered another $20.00

@Lawrence:Thank you for the additional info. If it is an '89, it will work for me. In other words I am interested. I tried to PM you but for some reason, it is not working or I am doing it wrong.
Please send me a PM re the manual and I will respond to arrange payment.
