Default stupid mistake equals big problem

ok so ive just finished getting my xj6 up going and running great rebuild motor seats reapolsterd and subs in. today i let my girlfriend drive to the store we live on a very steap car when she got home she came in saying the key was stuck in the ignition and wouldnt come out the car was in reverse and rolled down the hill anybody no a good place to order parts from need (probly will just end up being taken from a salvage yard) rear axle and rear struts also a bumper but i think ill get that at pickapart too

Oh dear, sorry to hear about that.

Be happy knowing your girlfriend wasn't in the car at the time - cars can be repaired.

yeah it sucks im just having a hard time finding a rear axle

Only you know just how bad it is, but are you sure you need to replace the rear end.

All it did was roll down the hill before coming to an unexpected stop. I wouldn't have thought that it had enough momentum to wreck the rear axle assy' unless it went over a cliff. (once had a 4x4 do just that, not pretty).

Maybe check your chassis alignment, if it really is that bad, the shock will have travelled right through it.

As you look to be doing the work yourself, I would look to buy a whole car for spares. You are bound to need a heap of body panels, and you will soon recoup the cost on all those small bits.

Agreed.
If you can find a wrecker car somewhere to salvage from, it would save a lot of money.

Im a little confused as to how it managed to roll down the hill in gear.
But that kinda sounds to me like the trans, or the linkage has gone bad.... maybe.

yeah the hill is very steep and the car went a quite aways down not looking to buy a parts car ive already popped out the dents

no problem with the trans the hill i live on is the steapest in the lower mainland so its a bit of a bitch
