Hantke.......I HIGHLY reccomend that you remove the fuel pumps from inside the tank.......mine were very gummed-up, and the filters were really clogged up too. Also, alot of crap that needed to be flushed out. There are drain plugs on the bottom of the tank. I drained the old gas out, and then put the plugs in finger tight, then added a few gallons of diesel fuel, and sloshed it around real good (I moved the car up/down and sideways as if you were testing the shocks). Then I drained....and then filtered the diesel thru a funnel with a good screen, and repeated 5 times on one tank.....you wont believe the crapola that came out. Also, with the pumps out, I was able to make a long stick with a roundish piece of aluminum screwed to the end and could actually pull more crap forward toward the drain plug. Then I used a magnet with a long extension to actually pick up the sludge....was partially magnetic and receptive to the strong magnet.
Part of the crapola that came from one of the fuel tanks.
As Colonel Potter would say, "Horse Puckey!" Looks like something you would walk upon in a cow pasture. Not good for the carbs.
The car started off fuel for the first time since I've owned it yesterday!
Congratulations!!
Wasn't it just the Sweetest sound!
...sure its not the fanciest setup at the moment, and its not mounted yet, but it did start and run off this setup! now I believe I need a more powerful fuel pump (dies if I rev the engine up and let off the gas, which It didn't when the fuel pump was located closer to the carb) and a little wiring and she should be just about roadworthy!...
LnrB.......When you said, " Congratulations!!
Wasn't it just the Sweetest sound!"
I thought you were referring to the Horse Pucky that I removed from my tanks.....the sound of it being purged from the tank.....if you get my drift. Ha haaa
That’s some impressive crap you pulled out, my worry now would be the integrity of the tanks, that stuff has come from somewhere and most likely its the inside of the tanks flaking off, sorry if I come across as a harbinger of doom.
Robman......Actually, when I used a small flash light and peered through the fuel pump removal hole, the tanks looked to be in pretty good shape......who knows, maybe some punks years ago poured sugar, mollassas, or Jim Bean into the tanks playing a prank on the former owner. I dont know, but those tanks are far cleaner now.
