1987 XJ6 Manuals ?
The only mechanical differences I can think of between an '87 Ser III XJ6 and an '86 Ser III XJ6 are minor:
1) the '87 has a 3-wire oxygen sensor (versus the 1-wire sensor of the '86) and
2) very late '87 cars had a difference a/c compressor protection circuit.
So, yes, an '86 manual should work for for you.
Is it a Haynes manual you are referring to?
Cheers

I've moved your question from New Member Area - Intro a MUST section to XJ6 Series I, II & III section. This is the place for model specific questions about your vehicle.
Doug has probably given the answer you need but other members here may have further information to add.

Which is why I specifically mentioned "Ser III" twice in my reply

Since "White Jaguar" is in the USA I'll go out on a limb and assume the car is a USA-market car. That being case, it would be a Ser III.
But.......
Ya never know !

Technically speaking that doesn't settle the identification problem as Jaguar was producing two entirely different cars, both called "XJ6", in Feb 1987.
I'm 99% sure you have a Ser III and not the newer "XJ40"-type XJ6, as the newer style would be tagged "1988" model year in the USA.
This has caused confusion over the years. It is often thought that production of the older style Ser III XJ6 ended in 1986 when, in fact, production of that car ended in April 1987....with the last several months of production intended only for North America.
Meanwhile, full production of the newer "XJ40"-type XJ6 began in 1986, with those cars going to other markets as either 1986 or 1987 model year cars, depending on local practice.

So the answer to your original question is you can use the 1986 manual for a Series 3.
These manuals are a real mine of information and still available on the internet either new or secondhand, (and presumably oil-stained !). The parts manual is also very useful, as it has loads if "exploded" diagrams of the parts and assemblies.
