Default 7" headlights

I was all psyched because I found the 7" trim pieces at Jaguar Parts International's web site for like $15 each. I ordered only to get a reply that they are discontinued. Why is a part discontinued that a lot of people would probably buy but ends up a rare thing that is price gouged on Ebay for $150 or whatever?

Did you try searching for the headlamp finishers on the Australian and UK eBay sites?

I bought my chrome finishers from the UK sometime ago. Actually the purchase was a steal. It happened on the day of the Brexit vote when the pound plummeted. The seller was not too happy but the transaction went through anyway. I used the headlamp buckets from an MGB. Very happy with the results.

Yeah $85 each plus international shipping for plastic repros is crazy! Thanks for the tips though!

Can you tell us where you sourced them? I'd love to get my hands on a pair!

Oh me !

On my bench, taking up a goodly part of it are what I have for a 7" conversion. Buckets courtesy Pete from J-l and from Sanchez. Fresh lamps and connectors from Rock Auto. Trim issue not resolved !!!!
And other things have delayed it!!!! I've a pair of "extra" trim pieces,
5 1/4' sourced. One poster ground the opening to fit. His work looks decent. My effort not so good. But, short of ruining the things. I can not find my "porting" tool to do it ! And, it is cold out there !!!

I do heat much better than cold!!!

I just kept checking Ebay UK. You can set up an Ebay account like most people do and Ebay will send you notifications when an item you are interested in, is placed on their website.
In my case, the 7 inch headlamp trim popped up in June 2016 and I immediately contacted the seller via Ebay ,then by phone and the transaction was done.
The 7 inch trim rings are hard to come by, but they do show up occasionally on Ebay UK.
There is a set available on Ebay as I post:

JAGUAR DAIMLER SERIES 1 HEADLAMP CHROME OUTER TRIM RING C18180
£40.00 Buy it now

Jag Specialties tells me they now (again) sell a 7" headlight conversion kit - $395.

Or, if your car does not have side vents in your car.. I have a VERY good pair of seven inch headlight rings without vents...the PO put them on the car and I just put on the vented ones to get fresh air from my side vents. My new ones are from Jaguar Specialties.

If interested, look at the before and after photos.. $75.00 plus shipping for the pair.

I wonder if that air vent passage can be restored on a later Series III?

Yes. If you remove the fenders you should see the ducting in place. The interior outlets are simply blanked-off with sheet metal covers, easily removed. It's then just a matter of sourcing the interior parts: push-pull handles, kick panel outlets, etc.

Cheers

But, the air flow through the side vents is minimal, even at highway speeds. My S1 has a center vent near the center of the front window.. it provides a LOT more air into the side
dash vents than the ones nearer the floor, plus the air from the side vents (the ones from the headlights) only have a dial that directs the air up or down......plus we have side vent windows and the regular windows --- plus AC and heat...

I can see why Jaguar discontinued those vents in the later S3 cars..

No they are heavy (50% heavier than the new metal ones I just bought) chrome plated metal... in perfect condition. Original seven inch rings for Jaguars without side vents = later S3 cars and some Jags without the side vent system (S1 according to one poster).

yes, no plastic please!! The XJ-S of the 1980's came with chromed plastic headlight Bezels and chrome plastic Grilles and the chrome starts to deteriorate and fall off in no time.

NO MORE PLASTIC!! NO MORE PLASTIC!!
