ac question for the pros
Ok guys, i need help, its getting warm here in Fla and ac seems to have a mind of its own! when its on its great, nice and cold, however when on auto, it cyles on and blows nice and cold then shuts off, i dont mean it slows the fan , the fan actually turns off, ( compressor stay on) it cycles like this for entire time its being used, it doesnt keep cabin cool , it gets cabin to a nice comfortable temp then shuts down, waits for cabin to heat up then comes on again!!!
If i out the switch on low or high i get nothing at all!, if i switch to defrost i hear servos moving behind dash and fans come on and it blows fine,
my guess is there is something amiss in the sensor on the bottom of the dash pad, but have no idea how to proceed!
any advice????

There are lots of threads on here about a/c. Search out the key words. "A/c , delinair, amplifier " . Look through my thread titled "a/c dazed and confused" some of the replies and comments are very useful.
First order of things, is to check all of the flap actuators, with a vacuum tester.
Replace all vacuum tubing. Rebuild the mechanical servo vacuum controller.

intermittent issues are the hardest to find!
sounds to me as if something is overheating and shutting off / resetting.
1) could be the Blowers Resistor, assuming both blowers go OFF. See diagram part number 3.
2) could be a vacuum issue; Check the little check valve hanging near the battery,
3) check the wires in the Blowers Relay are secure, especially the wire with a screw located in the center of the relay. See diagram of Relay wiring.
4) check the fuses in the passenger side fuse box.

i was following along on the dazed and confused thread, allhoses are intact and when ac works, everything works! all fuses are good and tight, relays and resistors are suspect as when it goes off i lose everything, Lost teh car for a few days for flexplate renewal got it back now, more fiddling !!!
what do you mean "I lose everything" ??
what is everything? do BOTH blowers go off at the same time ? that is electrical.
what else goes off ?

the large relay on the driver's side of the radio could be the culprit, it controls the fan speeds. In a/c mode the system has 4 speeds.
the easiest way to troubleshoot this intermittent symptom is to substitute the relay.
the next possible component would be the fan resistor.
