The Centre Steering Wheel Bolt on a Series 2 ; what to remove with. >? my 7/8 socket fits over it but does seem to grip. the bolt is a hexagonal bolt. would i require like a 21mm or 22mm socket.? or is this some techanogical magic beyond me//
I can't tell you whether there is any magic involved, but if 7/8" (equivalent of 22.225mm) slips, I would go for the 22mm. If that doesn't fit well, try the 21mm. Good luck.
That "bolt" is only nylon and not tight at all. Should be only finger tight.
And then you'll find a brass tube about 6 inches long with another nylon fitting over it that activates the horn.
Getting this back into proper position can be fiddly.

tried 21mm and 22mm (which appeared almost same as 7/8) and finally a 24mm (which worked but a tiny bit loose). a 23mm might have been the creature, but it's done now. thanks
no, that one came out easily as you say, but now you have mentioned the nightmare of getting it back in right I have the image of the bomb disposal guy who is told 'cut the red wire' and as soon as he does the advisors says "wait, no green wire"
it's all oily etc that dip stick thing etc.
was the bolt underneath as it was a 23/24mm to remove. now on the lower level and wondering how the next bit comes off. -thanks
I managed to spend two weeks engaged in a back and forward email exchange with a service desk woman in the USA because she was using one terminology and I was using by NZ terminology and we were 'fixing' different software things entirely.
I got the bolt off but now there's strange stuff i don't get like a grandfather clock dial.....

This is why I post pictures whenever I can. Few people will misunderstand a good photo of the problem.
But that's just me........
Later today I'll dig around in my Nix albums and see if I have a photo of the steering wheel assembly under the wheel itself. I had my fingers in it, but that was 6 years ago. I do remember it wasn't as scary as it looked, mostly because I only had to change the position of the wheel and didn't have to work on anything under it.
