Default Cold Start Valve (Injector) Cheap!

Hello,
I just wanted to share with you, I just purchased a new Bosch Cold Start Valve through Rock Auto for $43.78. They're having a wholesaler closeout, and there's about 10 of them left. The old and new valves look identical and both read 3.6 OHMS when tested. I'll put the new one in when the temp outside gets above 25F, but I have no doubt it should work fine. (the old still clicked, but was clogged. It's going in the soaker for a spare.)
The P/N that I ordered is BOSCH 0280170036. RockAuto lists it for a Renault Alliance and Encore, 1983-1984.
Hope this helps someone.
George.

Good sleuthing.

I also suspect it'll work fine but, still, I can't help but wonder if the fuel volume/flow is calibrated differently. The same design injector was used in many different applications and engine sizes. One would think that 2.0 liter four cylinder engine would have different cold fueling requirements than a 4.2 liter six-cylinder.

Let us know how it works out !

Cheers
DD

Default It Works!

Hello again,
I just wanted to let you know that the new Injector is installed, and at 45 degrees F outside, the Jag turned over and started in five seconds.
Before I installed it, Tested it for spray by attaching the fuel pipe, and holding the key to start, with the shifter in "R". I do know that this is how to precharge the fuel rail, but did not know the CSI would also spray in gear. I always thought it worked while the starter was engaged.
Anyhow, it works! Yahoo!

5 seconds? you mean it cranked for 5 seconds? That is a lot of cranking.

I pressurize the fuel system three or four times (shifter in 1, turning the key to START and holding it for 3 seconds), Then I put the shifter in PARK and turn the key and VROOM! Instant gratification!

Thanks for the update.

When the starter *circuit* is powered up the CSI will operate (providing the coolant is cold enough) even if the starter itself doesn't turn.

Default Thank you!

OK, Thank you, Jose for your (cranking) input. Thought about it all day. I just got home from work, and tried it again. It's 35 degrees F outside, I cranked it without any priming, and it started in 3 seconds. Taking in consideration that the gas in the tanks may be almost a year old, is this considered a satisfactory cranking time?
My next step will be to drain & flush the tanks and lines, clean strainers, and change filter. Thanks again, Jose and Doug!

well George, it is better than 5 seconds!! you're getting there!!

And by the way, you are welcome, the Cold Start Injector looks identical. If it works, then now we all have a source for the dammed things.

did it come with a new gasket?

I think 3 seconds is fine, especially in 35º weather; does not suggest a problem, IMO

Good idea on GPs, but I wouldn't do so based solely on 3 seconds cranking time.

if he can shave 1 more second out of his start time, he'll be up there with me in the Guiness World Records.

No Gasket. I made my own using Hylomar and three layers of cardboard cut out of a box of Cheerios. I was going to use Trix, but being a Jag, I thought "Cheerio" was more apprepot.
Oh, and yes, I did leak check it.

as long as the cardboard has no GMOs and is Gluten-free it should work out. At least you have a Plan B, the Hylomar.
