Default Engine Number Decode

Have a V-12 engine with the following numbers stamped on the rear of the engine. X8S39882SA and AC1962 and BM865X and 279 and 180. Has center distributor and fuel injection. Trying to determine which manual flywheel to purchase. Up to engine number engine 128477 uses flywheel EAC8192 After that it uses flywheel EBC1832. Looked at Quick Links numbers and they don't make any sense.
I do not have a vehicle. I simply purchased the engine from a fellow that said it came out of a 1986 XJS. I'm in the process of building a Speedster / Race Car

8S39882SA
I am pretty sure that is an XJS HE engine number. I think, repeat think, that the S stands for a USA spec engine (lower CR than UK and RoW). See second poost in this thread:
https://forums.jag-lovers.com/t/engi...-engine/418195

This is my 1985 Uk spec XJS number:

Greg in France Thank you for information. Now my engine number makes sense! Based on your number my engine is a little later and pretty much confirms it is a 1986 engine. In tracking down the part number for the manual flywheel, I purchased an official Jaguar Parts Catalog for 3.6 / 5.3 Litre. I entered some flywheel part numbers with the above question. I just realized I made a mistake. I was looking at the 3.6 Litre manual flywheel information. I searched every page and now realize there is no part number listed for the 5.3 Litre flywheel! Re-checking the catalog I now see it is for 1987 and newer models. I need to find out the first year a manual transmission was offered for the V-12 in the XJS. Once I find that out, I can then purchase the correct parts catalog. I do have request out in another area asking for help finding that flywheel part number.
There are several vendors out there selling flywheels. I want to ensure I get the correct one in terms of number of teeth and alignment with the starter. Thanks again for your help. Al in Michigan

The "X" is a bit of a mystery. But 8S39882 would be an HE engine

7Sxxxxx 5.3 Liter E-type

7P1001 5.3 Liter XJ12/Daimler Double SIx Series 1 w/carburetters
7P4000 5.3 Liter XJ12 & D6 Series 2 w/carburetters
7P25001 5.3 Liter XJ12 & D6 Series 2 w/fuel injection
7P42300 5.3 Liter XJ12 Series 3 Pre-HE (suffix ? = 9:1, suffix HA = 10:1)
7P45001 5.3 Liter XJ12 Series 3 HE
8S1001 5.3 Liter XJS non-H.E.
8S18001 5.3 Liter XJS H.E.

Cheers

The manual trans was not offered or used behind the HE V12. The last manual trans XJS V12, of only about 350 total, was circa 1979-80, Pre-HE

Looks like the flywheel would be C37105. Google "Jaguar C37105 flywheel" and see what comes up

Whether or not you can use this flywheel on an HE engine is another question. I dunno.

Cheers

Doug Thank you, I think I finally have the right part number ! Google came up with flywheel from Martin Robey Sales UK same p/number at 607 #'s. Has same diagram as you provided. Driven man has same flywheel for $399 US. I believe I have come to the end of my flywheel search. Now onto the Bell Housing and determination of a transmission. NO doubt it will be GM or Ford Tremec 5 speed.
Thanks again Al Ruckey Michigan
