Default a few electrical questions

i took off the panel her the man fuse box is located. there is a mass of wires under there.

i noticed the following: the fiber optic wire goin toward the fuse box was snapped. thereis also a feed with 2 fiber ops coming from the center consol the one going to the lightswitch (was in tact) the other was snapped.

can anyone assist on this and im sure i wil have to obtain newfiber optic wires to replace the busted ones

more pressing is the fact that car wont turn over. when i was dealing with trying to track the fib ops, there was a gang of 5 relay/connecters (socket like) but only 4 had relays (plugs) searched for hours trying to locate the 5th thinking it had tobe the problem. the i notice a purple wire hanging there looking like it should be connected to something. i thought itmight go behin the ignition well to make a long story even longer...that popped out along with a single ball bering. i got it back on, but no sure where the ball bering goes on that contraption. doghead needs heeeeeeeeeeeeelp!!!!

ok..the purple wire is acutally purple and black. it runs along with the 3 going into a connection turns into 2 wires then going right to the ignition.
im thinking maybe a ground, it does have a connection on the end that looks like it could have broken off at the area it was ground to or its a male tip thats supposed to find a home.

the fiber optic cable broke in two? or did it simply come off the headlamps switch or the ignition switch? It should have a metal "barrel" at its end. If it has the metal barrel it is not broken, just came off. The longest of the fiber optic cables is for the Headlamps switch. The second longest is for the Ignition switch. There's a total of 9 cables in the XJ-6, if it is a Vanden Plas model, it would have 12.

Not unusual to have vacant relay sockets.

Was the car running *before* you observed the missing relay?

You DO have a wiring diagram, right?

Most purple wires have to do with interior lighting. Purple/black, though, is for the horn, most likely.

I can't envision the ball baring thing you're talking about so I'm no help, sorry

that makes sense about the horn. didnt think of that. that car started fine this morning. it wasnt until i took off the panel it didnt turn over. im thinking now its because of a loose connection on the actual ignition. a brown wire on the bottom right was loose and finally came off.

Default ill be damned

the mass of wires that kicked my *** today were for an alarm and automatic starter the previous owner tried putting in.

2 years ago i was driving (to the bar) and half way there i hear sirens. look around thinking the fuzz are on my trail but see nothing except the car in front of me pull over. it was then that i realized that some ***** put an alarm starter and maybe radar combo in it and it decided to go off.

i got to the bar and couldnt rip it out quick enough. guess i forgot the 2 devices that were all wired up (the 5 gang relay with some type of modulator w/ all typres of wires coming out if it as well

i figured all of this out....the cable for the ignition switch snapped. and that other one wasnt a fiber op...total misread on my part.
