Default Fuel filter keeps clogging

Tommorow will be the 3rd new fuel filter in about 4 months im going to replace. Every so often the car hesitates and I cant get it to reach 30-40 mph. Trying to accelerate only slows the car down. I read about installing a second one before the fuel pump. Any suggestions on what kind or how to go about it? Its a 1982 xj6 series 3

On a side note, the odometer stopped working awhile ago. Is there a way to diagnose it or should you just replace it

My suggestion is to flush the muck out of the tanks. They do have a drain plug in the bottom for that purpose.

The use of Pre pump filters is one of caution. If they clog up, and they will by the sounds of it, the pump will starve for fuel, overheat, and die.

I would be very suspect of the current pump at this stage, as it has obviously had some serious "muck" travel through it.

The is simply no quicky fix, tank clean out is mandatory at this stage.

The odometer is easily repaired by any "Instrument Repairer" in your local area.
