Fuel Filter Replacement and Tuning HS8"s (well overdue)
A few months ago "Miss Fireball" started leaning out and pinging driving up the range to home (about 750 meter elevation over just a few km). Normally she chews up the hills and spits them out behind her.
After this happened a few times I realised it was only happening on the right tank, so I have been switching over the the left tank at the bottom of the range for the last few months. All was well until yesterday when it happened on the left tank for the first time, so today I stopped off at Supercheap Auto and bought a new set of filters and fitted them when I got home.
Last time I replaced the filters was September 2014. 65,000 miles ago.
Has to be dealt with quick smart because the commuting bike is off the road for a few weeks at the moment and she is doing over 800 km a week.
Tomorrow I will strip and clean the HS8's, and give them a ticlkle since that has been a few years since the last time.( the "how to" can be found in the stickys at the top of the XJ6 forum.)
The carby's were fairly gunged up inside so a good clean and lube of all the moving parts.
Pulled the spark plugs and 1,2,3 were lean and 4,5,6 were carboned up from too much fuel.
So a quick fettle of the mixtures and re balance the idle has done the trick for now.
A run down the range and back up again was good, but some time in the next couple of weeks I will replace the plugs give the carby's a fine tune.
