Default Fuel rail depressurizing when parked?

Interesting development over the weekend. Been driving the 1985 SIII VDP quite a bit and have it running and idling great at this point. But a couple of days ago, noticed instead of it just starting right up at the touch of the key it seems to be cranking noticeably longer until it catches.

I have tried the put it in Reverse and then hit the key to start position for a couple of seconds and that seems to resolve it. Once it starts it still runs and idles fine.

Logic says the fuel rail is de-pressurizing while it sits. Tried searching for what would be the best thing(s) to immediately check but could not find anything that seems to cover my particular scenario.

Any suggestions on where to start?

Default Further research says....

CAC2027 Located in the boot is the most likely suspect. Anyone concur?

And then the $64,000 question - anyone know where I can get one at a reasonable cost? And $125 for a used one does not fit this definition.

Saw one thread that says it may x-ref to a Volvo part but no part number was given.

Thanks,

Mark

Try the check valve. Or one way valve, it locate right by the fuel filter in the spare tire area. It's a simple nipple coming out of the juction block that has a buch of fuel lines going to it. The valve would be the " biggest" one. it's controlled by a simple spring and ball. unscrew it and see if there is a blockage, or a bad ball, or spring. Just my 2 cents.
If that isn't it then you can keep at it on here and someone will get it figured out for you.

How about $20 ?

Jaguar XJ6 Fuel Non Return Valve - CAC2027

How long does it crank before starting? Even with a faulty check valve the fuel pump....if healthy....should pressurize the fuel rail very quickly....like about 3 seconds.

If the check valve doesn't do the trick you might wanna get a pressure gauge and monitor exactly what's happening.

Cheers

3-4 seconds is about right. It just was starting with just a touch of the key. Sometimes it still hits instantly but mostly it has to crank a few seconds so I think (hope) it is the check valve failing.

Doug - The link to the item at everyday xj.com says he is out of stock, though I haven't emailed him directly yet. Seems like I am getting a box every few days from him lately. Best deals on the web as far as I am concerned and always great to deal with.

Amaezing - are you saying this is available at an auto parts store? You have a brand and part number?

Default Would this work

2X 8mm 5 16" Aluminium One Way Non Return Check Valve Fuel Diesel Water Marine | eBay

If I just put it inline by the failed unit? They seem available in 6,8 or 10mm sizes. Anyone have an idea on what size would work?

Solution sans issues, per DD's past advices on other things?

If my Jeep has laid fallow for a few days, it takes a few cranks to fire. Once fired it runs just fine.

My lumped Jaguar uses the original system up to the fuel rail. it acts similarly.

Both just fine with me.

Gave the jaguar a long awaited and much needed cleaning. Vacumed the interior. Not bad except for the driver side foot well. Lots of activity there chasing a starter issue, that included the install of a David Boger sourced ignition switch. That did much. Washed the exterior on what used to be my front lawn. The weeds will like that.

Needed Weed Whacker giving me issues. The usually faithful electric one!

Fire up the fussy two cycle one???More cutting power, but heavier.
Tougher on older shoulders...

Well Go figure. The guy that helped me find it a couple months ago, doesn't work there anymore.
If used to always tell my grandma that she would make a perfect auto parts employee cause they have two requirements:
1= must be bi-lingual
2= must know NOTHING about cars!

She never thought I was serious!
I had a cousin that got a job there instantly, when I told him that. After a year of working there and them became the manager. He would tell me he was the best parts guy around. Then you ask him a real question and "DUH" is the look I'd get.
