I've found this stray wire and connector close to the alternator on my 1982 XJ6 4.2. I can't see anywhere obvious it would connect to but suspect it became redundant when the new alternator was installed before I took ownership of the car. It's Green/Red (or orange or, possibly, brown) and it looks as though it might piggy-back onto something and it connects into the same loom as the lower brown cable. I've looked hard at the wiring diagrams but can't see and wire with that colour code. Nothing obvious isn't working so I wonder if I should just wrap it up.
Can anyone help in identifying what it should be connected to?

Reason: Question Answered
to me it looks like one wire that connects to the a/c compressor but the compressor would be above the alternator. Was the compressor removed ?

That would make sense. This particular car didn't have a/c from the factory so there's likely to be a couple or orphan wires. Just checked on the wiring diagram and, sure enough, there's a Green/Brown wire that goes to the compressor.
