Hi,
1984 XJ6, refurbing some used tanks to replace the rusty ones that are on the car.
I put some vinegar in there and swooshed it around and out came this little screen filter.
Do I need it? And where does it go? I can’t find nothing online.
thx! Andy
Hi, are the ‘new’ tanks from a fuel injected car? If so then its a foreign body, however it does look a bit similar to the filters fitted to the immersed pumps installed in some carb models , in which case the tanks will need some modification for a return feed if fitted to a fuel injected car. Regards Simon
Andy the filters usually slide onto the outlet pipe on the inside of the tank but usually there is a plastic top which is a tight fit and keeps them on. The plastic bit may still be on your outlet pipes. When I cleaned my tanks they were floating around as well. I removed them and fitted new inline filters between the tank and the pump to help keep the fuel clean and to also allow for regular easy cleaning of the filters. Unfortunately my car is at the mechanics at present so cant post pictures but I am sure there are plenty of others in the archives.
