Default My first oil change!

Good sunday all!

I am doing my first oil change on the Xj6. WHOO!!

Was wondering a couple of things

1 - Is there a set troque amount for the pan bolt or just "tight"??
2 - Do i need a crush washer or can i use whatever is on there already?
3 - How many miles between each oil change is best practice??

All info and experiences very welcome and appreciated!

Chris

Technically speaking I'm sure there's a spec but simply "tight" is what most people go with.

If not leaking, reuse what's there. No need to replace every time.

Opinions will vary.

If lots of city driving and/or short trip driving I'd go with 3000 miles. If the cars sees a fair bit of highway use, I'd go with 5000

Cheers

Only differences of consequence:

1. the horizontal filter will make amess when removing!!!

2. A lot more oil needed to fill the sump than most USA cars.

DINO 20-50 is just fine in our clime. I like the Valvoline aka CARQUEST, but most any is fine. I choose the best price!!

I suspect I've done my last DIY oil change. getting down not too bad, but, getting back up, oh me..

Carl.

Chris, go with 8 and add one more if needed. My '87 took 9 US quarts, but there's an 'early' vs 'late' specification. The details escape me at the moment.

3000 miles between changes is overkill, especially for an old car. 10,000 km or 6,200 miles is perfectly adequate. The 3,000 mile myth was probably started by Castrol or Penzoil.

Or, way back when, it was 1000,00 miles!!! I worked in Full service stations in my college years. Many of us used those 1000 mile change oils in our cars..
