Default Resistance is Futile or Not

A resistor for the heater right? From its condition is it in fair order or a wreck.? I can't be sure whether the asymmetrical coils is due to wear or design...

Clean it up and it should be fine. Different coils provide different amounts of resistance and thus different fan speeds. It can be checked with an ohm meter. I don't know the values you should get but there should be an obvious difference from one coil to the other.

Cheers

The two markings, red and blue, probably indicate low and high (resistance and therefore speeds), but which is which - I don't know.

more coils = more resistance = slower motor speeds.

Doug beat me to it!!! Better explanation anyway!!!

My VOM is dark! Dead 9v battery!!!! Got some batteries on the way. rechargables. Almost completed my collection. Initial investment a bit. but, constant buying didposables is expensive.

Would it be an interesting project to determine the values of those coils and seek encapsulated resistors of the same value and up date the control.

MY Jeep is a one speed fan. I had the panel out once and noted an array of encapsulated resistors. Decided not to mess around. Should have probed around for continuity of each!!!

The resistance is quite low across the elements. A conventional ohm meter won't read. You'll need a milliohm meter, a more precise instrument.
The green dot is the output, these are the resistances from the Delanair manual"
green - blue: 0.86 ohm
green - red : 0.45 ohm
green - yellow: 1.70 ohm
I attached the page. The lowest speed (Y) is provided by putting 2 of them in series.
This part is pretty bullet proof. If the elements are connected, it is probably okay.

I'll have to correct the previous. My car is a series 3, it has a 3 speed fan facilitated by the 3 element resistor array with 4 terminals. Adamshillito is working on a series 2 and the picture is of a 2 element array with 3 terminals. I didn't know there was a difference. This is the Series 3 part:

I expect that the resistance is still in the milliohm range, but visually the elements differ in length from the S3 part so the values remain unknown. I have a milliohm meter, but no part to measure. Sorry.

....and again. My Series 3 has 4 blower speeds. The highest speed bypasses the resistor array entirely, of course. Series 2 must have 3 blower speeds available, right? Is it possible that the series 2 under discussion has a heater only rather than the full AC unit and that the automatic temperature control AC system has additional blower speeds available?
I'll get it right eventually.
