Default series 1 window seals

I am looking for window seals for the front and rear windscreen. In my quest for new parts, I find Early and Late model seals.

My car is a 1970's car. anybody know what seals I need?

Thanks a lot!

Default Just did this the second time

Used BD48848-KITX Front
BD38361-KITX Rear from JagBits... worked perfectly.
With a '72 XJ and it has the trim around both windows.

Need a glass shop with "skills from the past"....they hate the Jag trim

I found out the difference. Early models have a chrome cover strip that covers almost the entire seal.

Late models have a much smaller chrome strip that only covers half of the seal. This is also used on series 2 cars.

So both have chrome trim, but the width of the trim differs. Based on the VIN, my car is a late model with narrow trims. Lucky me, the early seals are twice as expensive :-)

I am assuming my car is a late series 1 as it is stamped 09/73 and assembled in Nelson, NZ(first sold in Tasmania in 1974) . But I have read that series II's were built from (UK) autumn 73 for the 74' MY.

This sounds right as I have had a few occasions where S1 parts don't fit but S2 parts do. ie, the rubber boot for the oil breather and the oil filter assembly which look stock, with no adapter.

Can you tell me which rear window seal I need from the pictures below as I am about to order a rear windscreen rubber in the next few days. Third picture is the front screen.

That is definitely a late model. You can still see part of the seal. With early models, basically all you see is chrome.

keep in mind you also need the rubber inlay strip together with the seal.

Default Looks the same as the part numbers I posted

Your trim and seals look the same as the '72 that has the Kitx numbers.. they include all that is needed for each window = KITZ.

Yeah, but for example, SNG barrat delivers the seals seperately. Just pointing it out so somebody wont have to make an order twice.

What did the kit cost, btw?

Default Prices

Each kit costs $79.95 plus tax as they are in CA, no shipping.

Default Front window trim for S1

The photos are of my old '72 S1, my own car is missing that front trim and they are hard to find?? Anyone know of some for sale?

It looks incomplete without it!

Default Incomplete or buy for very expensive

It is nice that they have my trim pieces, but $261.00 for each side and a few dollars for the center clip makes it not look "too bad now".

I can buy a whole scrapper car for that amount...

I have, in fact, a spare set. You would just have to fly over here :-)

Default Or, you could ship them!

Shipping would be cheaper than flying there... I would pay for that....

Default So true - hard to find

After 4+ decades, S1 spares are getting harder to find... but I cannot justify
the cost of the new ones -- just to look a little better?

Will keep my eye out for a whole car that is going to the junk yard... strip
off the needed/desired stuff and sell the rest to the junk yard.

Been there... done that...
