Default Simple xj S2 modifications from Federal

A few easy things to do to enhance the look. Of course the obvious bumpers and 7in outer lights but some other things as well.

Fuel cap and fairing. Found larger style cap opening (eBay) (for funnel) and fairing (Norman motors ltd bd36623) Fairing is nice but i wouldn’t drill holes to install them. But all NA cr have the unleaded fuel version. I was also able to match the cap key lock to match my Keyes. It’s only 3 combinations so you have extra. Key lock you might be able to install correct combination. Off course mine were different so I ground. 1. Or 2 slots so my key would work. Easy

LED annunciatior lights. Needs some easy grinding modifications
Amazon Amazon

LED gear shifter easy bolt on lamp. Kept green filter as well and removed some lettering white paint (not necessary but helps). Geometry of lamp location and radius doesn’t show exact gear position pretty much like the original. Even with little brass bell installed… (removed).

Lowered gear shifter cover. Take some VERY accurate measurements and drill 4 holes the exact same distance above original rivet holes in plastic cover ONLY. Cut the areas that interfere and bend steel support tabs a bit. There will be a tiny gap once console gasket surrounds it. Beats that ugly tall shifter. (Paint new rivets black)

removed all EGR and Air pump systems. Plugged holes with theses caps. Do not overtighten. I used some blue lock tite (1/8 bspt)

front bumper. Removed I beam and springs.

Installed 2 blinkers (c39822 c39823). I found original Lucas ones about 100$ each. Remove 2 old wires thru loom and KEEP one to use as a guide to slide new wires thur fender loom) easy to do but you have to be meticulous. A bit oil on wires help and stager Cannon plugs and wrap with tape as you pull it thru the loom into engine bay) removing DOT side lamp and wires is required to free up loom to slide nez blinker wires thru. I used sticker decals to cover DOT side markers. If you try to weld holes it will distort fenders real bad….

lower front grill i used a federal one and cut the sides off and used a angle bracket to mount onto hood hinge box.. above lower one. So it’s 2 pieces Locate holes carefully. My brackets are like the original and are slotted allows for easy adjustment. (50-100$ for a new one eBay)

filled spring holes with 3/8 rod. Used special hollow drive to tighten a bolt in the hole and one standard lock nut in the back. A bit of trial and error until you get the bolt on. Then another bolt under the cover (not needed but good as cover will distort inward once tightened).
covers are available (BD44645) also needed for rear bumper

map light LED (yorkim 6418 36mm bulb) a bit too bright but easy to change.

rear bumper will get a series 1 bumper.

Final is an all jaguar parts and relatively cheap. No need for the full Vietnam bumpers 2k… plus these federal hinges in the front are sturdy and allow for nice hood alignment adjustment. Yeah you see them. I can paint them or make a cover. I will install overrider buffers and see how that looks

tygon 6mm brake fluid supply lines. (eBay)

AC issues first check Microswitches (as many as you can 6..) (on the mode control knob) the bolts holding them get loose and then weird stuff happens. Be careful. Thake radio out and switch frame and carefully check each switch while rotating know. You’ll see the cams they should engage micro switches. Also connecting plugs get loos as well. A few on mine came off without pulling! Needle nose pliers help tighten the grip !!!

I've been wondering what that bumper beam delete would look like. Can you post a couple more pics from a little further away? Very interesting.

it looks good. Nothing really Odd. It’s only 1inch of lower chrome metal missing from bumper length. You don’t see it when standing.
ok you see the hinges.. I’ll paint them or put a overider buffer on that circle.
double up the lower grill otherwise you have a big gap.

the rear looks much better without that junk on there. I planned on putting a 1x3 aluminum beam across under that chrome blade. That’s when I found a series 1 rear bumper
