Default suitable sub for my s3 ignition lock cylinder

Hello,

I had a break in on my 1984 xj6, and they stuck s screwdriver in the ignition. Its too beat up to be repaired, and I cannot find one anywhere.at least under 600. I found several that showed availability, but once you try to order, it lets you know it is discontinued or just plain not available. would anyone know a suitable generic one to replace it? I see ones that look like it, but just cant be sure. OR would it be priudent to upgrade to a start button? I wasn't exactly sure how the steering wheel lock mechanism would be if I removed it. I see in other posts people talk about replacing it this was, maybe with an autostart features. any help is greatly appreciated, I will post anything that could help the next person who runs into a discontinued item..

IMO the easiest solution would be getting a good used ignition cylinder and lock from:

Everyday XJ

I did check out the site, but they are out. I read posts that some after talking to them, but currently they show one for sale, but try to order it then it shows it is not available. I did see where some posts mentioned a certain parts manager who was able to help, maybe Ill try in the am to contact them. It seems like a good site to work with. I appreciate the quick reply.

I have a complete ignition switch with key from a 1985 Jaguar XJS. I don't know if it is the same as the Series 3.
Others will chime in to verify whether it is interchangeable.
It does look the same to me.

My gut feeling is "yes"

But, Jaguar did use different part numbers (XJS versus Series III) for both the ignition switch and the ignition lock assembly, which was sold with the switch. This suggests that the parts were indeed different in some aspect but doesn't necessarily preclude interchangeability.

I think the difference is in the switch itself; the electrical portion of the assembly. If I'm right, then simply use the XJS lock with the Series III switch.

Cheers

I have two XJ-6 Series 3 ignition switches.

Whether your key will work that's another question.

Everydayxj.com is a one man operation run by our good friend David. He is a prince of a guy but his web site is not always up to date. Just send a quick email to DAVID@EVERYDAYXJ.COM and he will get right back to you with a photo of what he has, with a price. Keep in mind he spends everyday of the week dismantling old Jaguars so there is no one who knows more about how they are put together than him. If everyone in the world was as professional and kind as David, the world would be a much better place. If ever there is a problem with one of his parts he will quickly make it right.

BTW he posts photos and interesting comments on his Facebook page. You don't have to join Facebook to see them. Things like a whole pallet of body parts wrapped up and ready for shipment overseas.
