Default Twin fuel tanks Series II

Hello all...

has anyone one attempted or succeeded in linking both fuel tanks together with a central surge tank and feeding their engines from a single pump?

i believe I have a method to achieve this but thought I would check first to see what has been done in the past.

all info appreciated

cheers

Yes, Craig, my car came to me with the tanks T'd together just forward of the right tank (looks factory to me). OEM pumps are still in the tanks for their anti-backflow valves.

An external fuel pump draws from both tanks more or less equally. Tank selection switch only switches the tank senders as the pumps were disconnected and are without power.

For my car, the anti-backflow valves, part of the OEM in-tank fuel pumps, keep the gas it its own tank rather than sort of self-leveling. Or, when parked on a side-hill, prevents all the gas running to the low side tank and running out on the ground (seriously frowned upon in these parts).

I think originally their function was to force gas to the engine rather than into the other tank. I'm sure most of not all in-tank fuel pumps have this valve, to keep fuel from draining back to the tank when the engine is stopped.
