Its magnesium, and aluminum so dont try welding it. Just buy another from jag tech. I just sanded and painted mine last weekend. How did you managed to crack it. I stood on mine and im 200#..

Hey Brute,

Thanks for the infomercial! I'm thinking he has a Series III XJ6 4.2: I use 100 inch pounds on those, the aluminum cover is not supported on the underside so it splits between bolt holes when guys crank on them.

That's up to you, $35.00 gets you a cover (cracks not included) and includes shipping to any U.S. address. I have never used JB weld, how much does it cost?

Jagtech is right, at the best JB weld would be a temporary fix. It'd probably stick though, at least until you could get a new one. Just do it on the top side, so when it comes loose it doesn't fall into the engine.

When I came across a classified ad, written by an owner who was looking for a good Series III transmission, I posted you a message to see if you could help him out. This is what I get as thanks in return. Perhaps we should both consider these as mistakes we won't make again.

I posted it in public, probably here during some thread where you and Jose were busy splitting hairs over something. The guy had a JagLovers ad posted, maybe six weeks ago.

Thanks for that ... no correspondance from him, and nothing showing up in the archives of either site.... I had no idea.

I've sent a message via private email, where the personal conflicts should be discussed....

Anyway...back to the Valve Cover...
Once upon a time, I had a Ford 302 with cast aluminum valve covers that I over-torqued. JBwelded the inside and outside, sanded down the JB inside smooth and it never cracked or leaked again...would still recommend a new cover though. JBweld is pretty low budget stuff and works well in a pinch, but would look like crap on your Jag cover.

I also know a guy who used JB on SBC blocks when rebuilding them...never had a problem, but then again, he knew what he was doing-where you can and cannot apply it to.

How about a shiny chrome or polished alumin. one?
Other old Jag straight sixes have beautiful valve covers. Anything like that for a 1982 xj6 with a 4.2?

I have been told that the heat of the 4.2 will turn the polished aluminum valve covers of the 3.8 engine into a purple-blue color. I haven't tried. A mechanic told me that.
