Smile XJ6 S3 problem fitting electric rise and fall to front seats

Hi, My first time into any forum and I hope someone can help me. My XJ6 S3 1983 has non electric front seats. I have purchased a second hand electric rise and fall seat mechanism which I have tried to put into the drivers seat position. If I install it as it looks to be in the parts manual, the seat sliding mechanism clashes badly with the rise and fall motor and the pivot points on the end!
I have no photos or any information on how it should go together.
Do I need to remove the slide rails from the seat frame and put the rise and fall gear in between the seat frame and slide rails?
I can install the rise and fall mechanism upside down, compared to the parts manual, and this works, however the carpet is then pinned between the motor and floor!
If some one could give me some advice of send some photos, it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Tony.

Hi,
the up / down pantograph with motor is bolted to the floor and it remains there even if the seat is removed from the car.

the front-to-rear tracks remain attached to the seat frame and are bolted to the pantograph at each of the four corners.

I am not sure but I think you need some spacers under the pantograph.

Here are a couple of photos that might help

There are spacers between the pantograph and the seat runners

in my 1984 Left Hand Drive, the motor is located by the center console side.

are the above pictures from a Right Hand Drive car? Or was a Driver side unit fitted to the Passenger side seat? Some owners add a motor to.the passenger seat.

The pictures are from a Right Hand Drive car.

The passenger seat also has a motor. Both motors are on the RHS of the car so passenger side is by the transmission tunnel and driver’s side by the door.

ok I see now. There is no Drive-side-specific assembly for the seat risers. The one assembly can be used on either side, i.e. motor will always be on the right side of the pantograph.

Hi Jose,
Thank you for explaining how the rise and fall mechanism is bolted tot he floor and does not move with the slides. It has taken a lot of worry out of what i was thinking. I have also seen the photos from Andy T and this has also helped immensely. It looks like all the rise and fall bases are the same for left and right hand vehicles. My right hand drive will have the same orientation of the base and motor as the photos (after this weekend).
Cheers, thank you again for your help. Tony
PS: when I purchased this base, I was given spacers ad screws.

Hi Andy,
Thank you for the photos, they explain exactly what I need to do. You would not believe how much searching I have done on the internet to see if I could get some information or photos of the rise and fall mechanism installation and orientation. The parts manuals and sales photos just looked to show the assembly end for ended, this was giving me a lot of confusion and playing with my OCD.
Thank you again for your help. I'm on the right track now. Cheers, Tony.

glad I could help Tony.
I bought a spare rise assembly for my Passenger's side seat (my car is LHD), and I was not sure I had the correct assembly, but now I know it is the same riser for both sides thanks to the pictures and details posted by Andy T.
