Hi
I finally got the XJ12C back from the paintshop, british racing green.. Now I have something to do during autumn
I tried to upload a picture but it gets stuck at 90% all the time. Dont know whats wrong...
Question; Would the front wheel arches be painted black originally (now they have body color)?
thanks
Marcus

I cannot picture what you mean - are you referring the paint on the body around the wheel arches? Or the inner fender are in which the wheel sits?
if you are referring to the body then the arches are in the same body colour (this is obvious, no?). The inner area is black, not body colour.

The wheel arches on my Series 3 and XJS are painted body colour then covered with black undercoating so that no colour shows until you start taking things apart.
The picture is only 700kB so should work... maybe its the browser, I will try later again.
Anyway; the place I mean is the paint on the main body, inside the front wheels.Dont know how to explain it better.
When I bought it it was just rust and old undercoating there..
At the moment it is painted first with the sandy underpaint (whatever its called? feels like paint mixed with sand), then the green top coat as the whole car.
I dont want to cover everything in thick undercoating again, just feels like a water trap for new rust.

I find so many different variations looking at photos on Google. My 77 XJ6C S2 has Black undercoated Wheel Wells. This is a 46 year California car, so, like every other old Jag, who knows when that was done. The Engine Compartment is BRG like the body, but the bonnet is Black on the underneath. My suggestion is make sure the wells are clean, remove or use rust converter on any affected areas and undercoat.Originally Posted by Mkii250

In #2 I wrote that if it was the wheel wells (as opposed to the outer body panels), the finish was black, which was, I think, what the OP wanted to know (the mention of “wheel arches” was the confusing bit).
