If you are doing all the hoses (all 14) then removing the rad helps a great deal with the crosspipe hoses. If you are just doing the rad top and bottom hoses it does not really help!
To remove the rad:
  • Undo the bleed pipe that runs across the top of the radiator
  • Undo the aircon dryer brackets that also are fixed to the panel above the radiator
  • Undo the four bolts holding this panel (the panel that goes across the top of the radiator is bolted by four bolts two each side)
  • VERY carefully keep all the fixings and note where they all go and the order of washers, copper washers spacers on the breather pipe, which hose goes to where from where, earth wires under fixing bolts etc etc, and take photos.
  • The fan shroud is bolted to the panel above the rad too, and must be undone, and various bits of loom, relays etc etc are also bolted to it and must be undone and pushed carefully out of the way.
  • Undo any other fixings that go through the panel, (eg the condenser top bolts.
  • Now the radtop panel can be removed and the main radiator top hoses and bottom hose removed, and the radiator lifted up and out vertically.
  • If you undo the bonnet struts, the bonnet (hood) can be made more vertical, which helps, prop it with a broom handle or similar, and have a friend hold it while you pull out the radiator.
  • Clean out the radiator fins and those of the aircon condenser and oil cooler which are in front of it.

Yes the hoses need to be removed. If everything else is done the radiator is just resting on pegs on the bottom and just come up and out.

Hi Shahar

Taking off the Bottom Rad Hose can be a bit of a nightmare but if you've got a replacement hose, then one of the ways of getting it off, is to just cut it through with a breadknife

Or else try and wrangle it off with a strap wrench like this one, as the bottom hose very often glues itself on to the Outlet Pipe of the Radiator and then doesn't want to come off

Hi Shahar

Once you have disconnected the Bottom Hose from the Rad, then you may be able to break its grip on the Pump by twisting it, or if not then get the Rad out first and then you can use the Strap Wrench on the Pump

Just be very careful not to damage the Rad as they cost a fortune!

Useful to protect it with a piece of Cardboard when lifting it out
