Exclamation 1995 Jaguar XJS

Hi all,

My mom purchased a 1995 Jaguar XJS. Unfortunately we found after we drove it a while the car is in need of new parts to repair the powersteering, fan clutch, right rear suspension. Was told parts are nearly impossible to get for this model since it did get discontinued. My mom is heartbroken she is unable to drive it. If anyone knows of anyone that specializes in vintage european cars to recommend it would be greatly appreciated!

P.S Should she just give up and get rid of it? Thank you!

What is your location and car details?
Most parts are still readily available so no need for your mum to be heartbroken.

Some parts can be difficult to find but only a few would be classified as "impossible".

First thing to do is to identify the exact parts you need. Use the link below to find the Jaguar part numbers;

Genuine Jaguar Parts and Jaguar Accessories for classic Jaguars from Jaguar Heritage Parts UK

Once you have those we can recommend places where they can be bought.

Thank you guys so much! I'll have to look into what parts are needed and this car is too nice to give up on.

Welcome to this great Forum.
Your mom has purchased one of the most desirable and attractive cars and she will not regret doing so. Twenty year old cars will have issues, of course, plus typically when cars are sold there's always something wrong that the previous owner chooses to give it to the new owner, so it's fairly normal. You won't have problems finding parts because there are many well known sources, as the XJS car ownership continues to be strong, even gaining in popularity within Jaguar owners' groups.

The XJS was manufactured for long 21 years, so, many factory improvements were incorporated during that time and, in purchasing a '95 XJS, your mom bought the model year with the most improvements that you can get (i.e. the most reliable and convenient models '95 & '96). In addition to that, this Forum's membership is a phenomenal source of hands-on knowledge and experience, so, no, tell your mom that this car is a keeper and that soon she'll come to realize how much this car attracts looks, accolades and, simply, admiration.

Please, do post some pics.
Thank you,

Cheers,

As long as Mum is prepared to get everything working properly, which may take some time and patience and WILL take money if a garage is doing the work AND you can find a garage that can do it properly, she will have a lovely car. There is bound to be a maintenance backlog. If you are the mechanic, that is a far, far better plan. This forum is great.

These are wonderful cars, but they are not "buy and forget to maintain" ones, and need looking after.

Hi,

As others have said with a little searching around, lateral thinking and ingenuity you will be able to track most things down so don't give up.

SNG will have most stuff but try Paul's Jaguar (link below) who are closer to you and a good source of second hand parts and advice.

Good luck,

Yeah, a quick and fast answer. "We don't want to be bothered"

One by one, these are relatively minor issues. One by one, do an on line or archival search. The solutions exist.

I own a '95 XJS convertible. I've had the car 7-1/2 years and it has turned out to be the best car I've ever owned! No exaggeration. I drove my car in Tampa rush hour traffic every day for six years without one problem and I never had a problem getting parts.

SNG Barrett is great.

I don't know them and can't really make a recommendation, but these guys are close to my office: Orlando Jaguar Repair | Jaguar Maintenance | Jaguar Diagnosis

Perhaps some research will turn up some reviews.
