I am going to post this on the For Sale site as well but wanted all here to have a chance at it since I suspect many like me don't look there as often.
Most of this car is compatible with any XJS of the 80's. The body is rougher than it appears in the picture but the fenders, doors, trunk, hood panels are all good.
Some of the H&E specific items that are useable include:
convertible top with frame and motor
convertible top boot cover
gas tank
gas tank filler cap (appears to be the same as from an XJ6)
chromed door sills (unique in that they do not have Jaguar on them like coupes I have seen)
Parts will be cheap: $15 - $75 for most items including wheels w/ tires. Shipping is extra of course.
I plan to keep a few things (windshield, motor) for myself but the rest of it can go. I will post pictures of many items as they get removed. I hope to have the car disassembled by Thanksgiving. I do plan to make some You Tube videos to illustrate different aspects of the car. Hopefully this helps others with their projects much like so many on this site have helped me.
As the years go by many parts for these cars get harder to find. Having a spare this or that on hand can make a future project much easier than responding to an emergency.
PM me with specific requests. I can take pictures of desired items if needed.
How is the interior and what color is it? After a passenger seat in Biscuit. Also need one of the little rectangular seat mounting nuts that go under the front of the rails.
Interior is actually pretty decent. I put some leather conditioner on a spot and it came right back to life.
Interior door panels and seats are a medium blue color.
Driver seat has a split seam on the left shoulder area.
Convertible top is a darker blue.
I know the nut you are referring to. I'm not there in disassembly (and its about a million degrees here - triple digits again and very high humidity) but I will mark it down for you if you can wait.
It has two rust spots. One just forward of the drivers door and has rusted thru. The other is on the passenger side door sill. Their are a couple other surface rust spots on the back half of the car up high.
PM me you phone number and I can text you pictures.
Depending on price that sounds workable. Where are you located?
when I say chassis. I’m OK with just that, devoid of any body panels doors trunk hood etc. Suspension engine tranny wiring etc.
A quick update. Thanks to all who have inquired for parts. I am getting them off as quickly as my schedule permits. As you can imagine each nut or bolt seems to have its own resistance point so getting them free takes a lot of work. And of course its a jaguar so getting anything apart is a major project. Case in point trying to get a door handle out. One more retaining nut that there seems absolutely no way to access without cutting the inner door panel.
A few notes on subtle differences I've noted so far in this '88 compared to my '87.convertible v. coupe' not withstanding
Wiper grill and washer spray nozzle setup is different
Headlights knob is different
'88 has heated seats (I wonder if I can add them to my car)
ski slope of course is obvious change
cruise control switch
door sills, chrome v. plastic (Hopefully I can swap them out - cannot see a reason why they won't fit)(everything else is the same)
A little help. I can't get the instrument cluster out. I have all the screws removed and the plastic facia trim as well. The steering column is completely out of the car as well. The cluster wiggles but something seems to be holding it from the top middle rear. Way too tight with all the wires and lack of space to get to my hand up there to feel. I have taken instrument clusters out before and don't recall this issue. Suggestions. Thanks,
First top, left and right screw (blind plug).
Take out left and right part ("hockey stick").
Take out lower left and right part (carefully remove)
Tacho must go out the top first.

Heated seats would be a nice upgrade, although the heating elements might need replacing first. But, the wiring etc shouldn't be too hard. Make sure the seat tracks will fit. At some point there was a change in seat mounting details.
The '88 has heated washer nozzles which might be useful in winter. Make sure to grab the temp sensor as well. And I think it'll also have heated outside mirrors as well....but I'm not 100% certain on that particular point
Forgot about the blind or hidden screws at the corners. All came out easily after that. Nothing damaged or broken. I did notice that there was no ground wire. My '87 had a ground wire from the cluster to a screw on the frame.
Where is the temp sensor? In the seats? I'm not certain I will try to do this. It would involve cutting the leather on my center console and I'm not a fan of that. This would only be at best a 'nice to do' not a 'need to do.' Biggest trick will be getting the seats/rails off without stripping the bolts.
The mirrors appeared exactly identical to my '87. I did not see any additional wiring for a heated mirror element. Maybe it was a later model.
Hood, grille, and headlights came off and out this evening. Bolts getting soaked in Liquid Wrench to take off the bumper and radiator next. Would like to get the fenders off as well if they don't put up too much of a fight. There is a round brown item behind the grille a few inches toward the center from the secondary coil. It is about 3.5-4' long and 1.25' in diameter. It has a couple wires going to it but I don't know what it is. It is not connected to the coil at all. Any ideas?
