Default '96 XJS 4.0 Occasional running hot

Hi Everyone,

My '96 XJS, with just over 100K miles, occasionally runs hot. Most of the time it's fine but sometimes, if I'm stuck in traffic and the AC is on, it can start heating up, the needle moving rightward. Turning off the AC stops the heat-up so I've never let it actually get up to H. I've had this problem in the past and traced it to a bad thermal switch for the electric fan. But now the electric fan is definitely running. The mechanical fan clutch seems to be okay, i.e. you can't spin the fan very much by hand. Do you think it could be a clogged radiator? But then why does it happen so seldom?

Thanks,

-mB

1. When was the last time you:
a. flushed the radiator and replaced the coolant?
b. replaced the thermostat
c. replaced the coolant temp sensor
2. Reviewed the mod to automatically run the auxiliary fan whenever the A/C is running?
