Default AJ8700 will not accept code

I bought an AJ8700 from Jerryjag two years ago and it's been great. After disconnecting the battery for winter storage it needed the security code which I had and entered it and it worked fine, same again last spring. However this year it stays on CODE and will not accept the security code. It just "beeps" after the last number. I know the number I entered is correct as I have the card that came with the radio, and it always worked before.

Anyone had the same? Any ideas? ANy workarounds? Any help appreciated as I replaced a modern unit (which I still have) but I really want my car to be ORIGINAL!

A quick search came across this on a vintage radio forum:

RADIO UNLOCKED, problem was with Jaguar factory manual. What it didn't say was "hold each number in for 1 second and observe security lamp for flashsing" You can't just punch numbers in.

WOW - I can’t thank you enough - it worked! A comment for anyone else that has the same problem is to disconnect the battery again to clear everything. I guess I was slower entering the code in previous years: now I am older I must be more impatient :-)

Jaguaforums rocks!!!
