Default Auxiliary Air Valve rebuild

Has anyone had an experience or heard anything about the guy on ebay who rebuilds AAV's for $70? Mine is froze up, and the price sounds good.
Thanks

I don't remember where, but somewhere on this forum someone said they used a self tapping screw to grab one of the little holes so they could manually work the system instead of relying on boiling water. Cant find it again, but I would love to know what size and length of screw he used. Hopefully he will see this post.

Morning Guys.

I have no answer for the original request, however, I have rebuilt MANY of these over the years, and have a Word doc on it, with photos.

It is too big for here, so I send it direct to those that ask via a PM.

There is a guy in Fresno ( Dr Quail on here somewhere) who is doing them. He visited me downunder, a while back, and we exchange lots of info.

Does anyone know a xjs v12 doctor in British Columbia? I live in the Interior but will haul the car to the right guy. I need to replace power steering pump and check out pressure hose lines. It idles great but lacks power and fault codes 13 and 14 came up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Everyone, wanted to close the loop on the AAV valve rebuild on ebay. Sent the part to him, got it back in a couple of weeks, including shipping time. Stuck it in boiling water and it moved up, cooled it off and it moved down. Kinda what it is supposed to do, so I would say money well spent. There were instructions for DIY that I printed, but did not want to risk messing up.
A Special Thanks to Grant who made the document available.
Now if the car will start --?
Thanks

Quick question about the AAV...

If the AAV piston closes completely when the engine is at operating temperature does that mean that there should be ZERO vacuum from the large tube where is connects into the back of the air cleaner?

The reason that I ask is that the AAV has an adjustment screw that controls bleed air into the system so the idle can be adjusted. If I am correct, there should always be a little vacuum from the large tube.

Am I correct or should the vacuum be zero at operating temperature?

There is NO vacuam as such in that 1" tube at any time. It is an open enfed hose at the air cleaner backing, and is simply a "draft" air entry hose. MASSIVE suction when thumb placed over that hose end.

YES, it sounds like a vac leak, NO its not in real terms. It is designed that way. There is vac, as such, above the piston, and closely controlled by the holes drilled IN that piston.

Many heated discussions over the years on that one. Put a vac gauge in that open hose, zero. As I said, its a draft suction, thats it.

The adjuster you mention is an air bleed, correct. It is purely for HOT engine idle speed adjustment. It has NO effect on cold engine idle speed. That is purely controlled by the cutouts in the mouth of the AAV, and are closed OFF as the piston rises.

Hi, I have a 6.0 V12 and it was running sweet as a nut. When I took it out last week I had a check engine light come on. The error code is FF13, a lot of articles seem to point to the AAV, my symptoms are as follows: Starts first time, very low idle and very lumpy (no check engine) suddenly it picks up revs to about 1000 and the check engine light comes on. Is there any quick fix as it seems the valve is stuck closed (warm) rather than the more common open issue. Appreciate any assistance

Firstly welcome to the Forum.

I suggest a NEW thread in this section, as this one is 12 months old (nearly), and may net get the reading needed to answer your question.

I have NO 100% idea on the 6ltr, but it it has an AAV, as apposed to an idle control motor/valve, then the low cold idle is AAV related, and there are NO shortcuts here at all.

If its the "Stepper motor" system, I have never seen one, as there are so few 6ltrs down here from the start.
