Reminds me of when my wife used to take my F150 out... I'd get 16 and she'd get 10. I usually don't watch the mpgs on the Jag, but I got about 16-17 on a long trip to the beach when I first got it and something like 12-13 normally with highway and city combined.

My 5.3 got 12-13 in town and 20+ on the highway.....even as high as 23mpg a couple times when I was gentle and set the cruise at 65mph (borrrrrr-ing!)

Thirty five miles isn't very long to esatablish a meaningful average, IMHO, but 10.6 mpg sure sounds low if it was steady-speed driving

Cheers
DD

that doesn't seem right unless you weren't going fast enough to kick up into 3rd gear. My 88 gets great mpg at 40-45 because thats the bottom of 3rd

Our '85 XJ-S v12 Coupe gets 14-15L/100kms (about 16mpg USA, and 19mpg Imp) around town, and we got those dumb 50kph speed limits all over the place.

The last cruise we took it on, all the way around the Aussie coast road, about 15000kms, we averaged 11.2L/100km (about 21mpg USA, and 25mpg Imp) for the whole trip.

I used the cruise some of the time, and as Doug said BOOOOOOOORING. I mean some of those roads were straight as they come and unsealed and fun, and a V12 at "full cry" is just sooooo sweet.

Took mine on her first extended drive day before yesterday. ~3 hours, 180 miles at a tad over 80mph (130kmh) and averaged 14.8mpg.
I figure squarely at 65 mph I could get 17mpg or so.

I need to go back and check mine but I don't think my straight six is getting as good a mileage as y'alls v12s. Last time I checked I was getting around 15 in town and last (and only) long trip I've taken in it I got about 19 going from KC to Denver.

Mine's averaging 20 yards to the gallon!! You can watch the gauge go down whilst it's idling.....

So what maintenance/parts degradation causes the mileage to drop of these cars? 02 sensors, maf's?

Excessive application of right sided Pb-Metatarsal usually causes dramatic changes in fuel consumption.

We dont have O2 on our year V12, and NO maf's.

Usually the "to do list" gets out of control. and the ever forgiving V12 will allow some serious deviation before kicking your butt.

Ours does not vary too much from "fun, to cruise". Too much of the gentle stuff is not so good for the V12, it must be DRIVEN, and seems to actually thrive on it.

OK, fun now is less than it was due to age (mine) and police type non humourous persons.

When I want to overtake some lesser car on the open highway, I usually get right into it, and top side of the tach and speedo is often seen.

just the general "tune up" type things. The car needs to be the way it was from the factory. Now i don't meed flawless just efficiency wise.

There isn't much to do about engine wear, you can obviously change seals and replace things or make sure your valve clearances are right but really its just plugs, wires, dist, good gas, air filters, cats are still in working order.

those kinds of things....as i said my plugs were at 40 instead of 25..so they weren't working at proper efficiency so now my mpg and power should increase even if its the tiniest bit.

everything counts

If everything is as it should be then the driver is at fault..
