Default Bonet liner

I’m thinking of glueing my bonet liner to some form of backing board to try and beef it up and prevent it getting more fraught. I’ve considered aluminium sheet but it’s a bit pricey so was thinking about 3 mm hardboard or some sort of polymer sheet. I’d like to keep the original so not considering dynamat type options. Just a bit concerned about the heat under the bonet? Anyone else tackled this or have any ideas? Many thanks in advance

Mine started hanging down, so I just ripped the whole thing off. No difference in sound. I do wonder if the heat is going to do something to the paint, but it's pretty bad already.

The OE stuff is not salvageable and also inhibits airflow into the engine bay. I used this stuff, not that dear and really good, Very sticky, easy to cut and apply and looks pretty smart too.

I can't think of any material that is heat resistant, inexpensive and suitable backing.
Are you not interested in replacing it with new adhesive material?

I have to do this. Mine came off last year. The paint does have a haze, on the hood, I should try to save it from possible damage. Thanks for the ideas.

I ended up buying some good quality foam from Germany. Used my old liner as a template. Sticks like s@#t to a blanket so you have to be carefull. Not cheap but I'm happy with the results.

For anyone looking for a low cost product that comes close to the original in terms of materials and appearance, this outfit offer fiberglass hood blanket material in various bulk sizes and thickness:

Closed cell vinyl nitrile with 3M#80 spray adhesive.

Minimum 1/8” on the nitrile, 3/16” will work, after that it might get too thick? (For the AJ16 engine)

We just bought a 2002 XKR, with half the hood blanket missing from the mice. Have found a source: hoodliners.net, but what they have fits
XJ-6 and X-type. Is there any chance of them being compatible.....

I was thinking of heat insulating material that has foil on front and back sandwiching fiberglass in between probably sold at Lowes or Home depot for under $10.00!

I used black aircraft heat and noise insulation from a guy in the states who used to advertise on this forum. It looks good but the engine doesn't cool when parked, and hot days it over heats the high torque starter and won't turnover so I had to pull the hood in summer when parked. I have since lagged the r.h.down pipes, but havnt had the opportunity yet to test.
