Default Brake Pads

Greetings

looking to change both front and rear brake pads in the not to distant future.

The ones i am running (do not know the brand) i am ok with but they are very dusty and find the front rims (factory lattice rims) dust up and need a regular wipe down to keep them presentable.....i am away a lot with work so i do not drive the car that much, but will do a a coupla - 3 or 4 hundred km's sometimes when i am home.

While wiping the rims down is not that much of a big deal....i thought i would consult the forum as the pads themselves, particularly the front ones, will not get changed that often......disks are in good condition, front and rear.

It may be a while (few months) before i get around to this, comments would be appreciated.

Thank you...all good

Darren

Darren,

Try and find Wagner pads, or Ferodo Thermo Quiet.

I run EBC Green, and they are dusty, but the starfish wheels dont get that dirty.

TRW is another brand here that is reported as good.

I have Bendix in the Silver car (came that way) and they are terrible. TRW on the bench when I get around to it.

The Black car has the EBC, and stop sooooo sweet, but dusty.

I spray the wheels with Mr Sheen, dust does not sick anywhere as bad.

Darren,

I run EBC Redstuff on the front which seem far less prone to dust emission than standard pads. On the rear, it doesn't seem to matter as the pads just don't seem to wear anyway!

Cheers

Paul

The best pads I've ever used have been Akebono ceramics....but they might not be available for your year and model, whatever it is. I had them on my XJR and they were great....terrific grip and virtually zero dust.

Next in my line of favorites, which might not be available where your are, are the Raybestos PGD series. No noise, great performance. little dust. I used PGD9M for the rear (inboard brake) and PGD135M for the front. I had 'em on my Series III XJ6 and my '88 XJS V12. Very pleased.

Cheers

I run "ceramic" on everything in the garage and driveway, less dust, less noise at only a little higher cost.

Do they make them for our cars? If so, do you have part numbers by any chance?

I had no use for ceramics until ... I read that they
are gentler on the rotors. That makes them much
more interesting.

Sorry it took me so long Greg, helping my Daughter move into her new place all day. Centric 10500090 IIRC.

I am running these all round Paul, very good pads. According to the EBC site which I have just looked up, they are in fact a ceramic formula.

Greg,

Tks for that. That probably means they have a lower metallic content which I guess contributes to the reduced dust emission?

Yep,

The Black Beast has them.

Dusty, live with that.

Took AGES to bed in, so I got the mean streak out, and simply drove it like a V12, and got them HOT. Shut up the next day.

They BITE straight off, and as the heat rises (very quickly mind you) I find I am feathering the brake pedal, coz they are as "sticky as hell", and I LIKE them.

Panic stopped the other day from 140+kph, and in ALL the Jags I have owned, this damn thing had me on the seatbelt to the point of chest pain, but I missed the Roo, JUST. Spouse just shut her eyes, HA.

Pedal pressure was, and still is, LOW.

Here in the 'States we'd say....

"It'll stop on a dime and give ya two cents change"

Well, that's what * I * would say, at least !
