I am sourcing parts for reassembly and was wondering if any of you out there have made your own spark plug wires? Seems to be an opportunity to get them routed cleanly and up out of the bottom of the"V". What size did you use and where did you get them please. Thanks!
Looking at the inside of the cap, does this cap have the desired metal ring mentioned in other posts? I see the ring, about 1 1/4" diameter, around the center button area. Also noticed the "Made in Italy" raised lettering. Does this indicate a good reproduction part or something I should replace? The "B" coil tap was pretty heavily corroded but I have cleaned it out successfully....in my opinion.
I'm not familiar with the metal ring thing so I can't comment.
As far as reproduction caps I'm pretty sure they're all coming from the same manufacturer and being sold under different labels. If I'm right there's little point in replacing it as you'll likely get the very same thing.
A 'Pukka' Marelli Distro Cap has Brass Contacts, if not it could be a 'Pattern Part' that is made under License, so I really wouldn't be that keen to throw the old one away
In process of replacing plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I am also removing the air injection system, A/C compressor and cruise control bellows as they do not work. I will keep the components should my intentions change. The car was running well beforehand save for #5B. As seen in the pic, it is pretty well fouled. Also found a taped up plug lead on A bank. It was working but what a poor repair practice. Aso attached pic is a valve of some sort I have not identified. It fits into the A bank air box so please help me out. All new plugs are gapped and installed. Just have to find the time to finish this up and decide how I'm gonna plug the air injection ports at each manifold runner. Once again, thanks for any advice and input.
In most applications it is triggered off the AC compressor circuit. When the compressor is engaged the valve opens and kicks up the idle speed a bit to compensate for compressor drag. However, depending on year and market there are some variations on how this valve is operated.
Hmm. So....since I am deleting my A/C, I could also delete this valve as long as I do do it appropriately.
I deleted it on mine even though I do have AC.
I'd say it's OK to delete but just for the heck of it you might wanna look up the exact function of the valve for your particular year and market variation. In some cases it was tied to more than just the A/C compressor operation.
With no power it is closed so I'm gonna apply 12V to see if it opens. Open, it would allow additional air to be pulled from the airbox into the intake manifold after the throttle body. Got one injection manifold removed, tapped the tubing retainers for a 5/16" X 18 tpi set screw which I will loctite in place.
This is how I'm gonna plug the ports in the intake runners. Guess I really do not need the top o-ring and I'll add some high temp rtv. I know a person should never wash this motor conventionally but this one is REALLY grungy. I do not notice motor oil leaks and the level is always good. I'm not prepared to pull the cam covers so I'm thinking of blotting the mess up with rags saturated in some type of cleaner. Surprisingly, the previous owner paid a BUNCH of $$ to have all the upper gaskets replaced. I'm convinced, even though he sourced the work to a local Jaguar dealership, the person(s) performing the work were not into......doing it correctly. I'm finding various bits of this and that, springs, hose clamps and small fasteners laying in the bottom of the "V". All the air injection stuff is removed except the pipe running behind the "A" bank exhaust manifold. It is severly rusted so I'll attempt to pull/cut it out. The hole that formerly held the injection tube is now threaded 5/16" X 18, will be fitted with a set screw and loctited in place. Yuck! More Yuck!
