Bypassing wiper switch
Hello everyone, in my 1982 jaguar xjs I have no wiper function after repairing all the other age based gremlins. However I move tomorrow and there is rain in the forecast, is there any temporary way I can apply power to the motor and make them run for the trip to my new apartment? Perhaps a switch to apply power to high speed?
Thanks,
Evan
Thanks,

Have the wipers ever worked since you've had it? Given the year of your car, you have the Lucas wiper assembly,
a poor system at best. The plastic water shield over top of the motor tends to disintegrate, leading to corrosion and seizing of the mechanism or motor from water intrusion. I had one motor totally rust solid before I got it. I ended up replacing my system with the later Electrolux assembly, a more conventional and robust system.
If it has worked recently, the connector to the motor is under the grill that holds the wiper mechanism. The wiper mechanism and grill comes out as a unit after you remove the wiper arms and screws holding it in place. Once the mechanism is out (it's a bit of a struggle as it goes in only one way), the leads to the motor will be exposed. It would probably be easiest to run wires direct to the motor itself, rather than the connector.
You can find more info in "The Book" that's in the stickies at the top of this forum.
