Default Can you still buy these Water Rails?

Hi Guys

Can you still buy these Water Rails?

Had a Trip round the Yard Sales today and thought I had Struck Gold! an XJS V12 Water Rail in a heap of unrelated Junk for only 10p!

Though maybe not quite the bargain I thought as it is a little bit Rusty and has got a hole in the 'U' shaped branch where it has rotted away!

I needed to rebuild mine but l was able to reuse the venturi section and changed out the longer section with off the shelf steel bundy tube.
All the joints will sweat apart but be careful to maintain the design.

Hi Baxtor

Cheers!

If I can't buy a New One, I'll have a go at rebuilding it as a spare

Hi Steve

Cheers!

Worst Case Scenario, I can use it as a Template if I want to get a New One made as a Spare

I wonder how much it was when it was New?

Talking of Bargains, I picked up this Brand New Table (Workbench!) £119-99p reduced to £20!!! because it had a small ding on the corner, which you can just about see by the Welding Set (That's the 'ding' not the Table Lol)

Alex,

Been NLA for a very long time.

Google found a used one in the USA somewhere for $175, oops.

I had some made out of stainless, waaaaaaaay back in the good old days. Cost me $50 each. Local radiator repair shop did them, but those guys are near all gone these days, throw away radiators made of alloy/plastic took care of their business.

Good luck buddy.

Mine was toast, rusted badly, so I made a new one from steel tube. It's not difficult, I used plumbers solder to joint the pipes. Been on the car now for 6 years.

There is a new one on the well know UK auction site OB, from Andy Harvey at Just XJS, who is a decent bloke, but too pricey for you I expect!.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-XJ...frcectupt=true

The only important thing is the venturi (the different diameter pipes that make up the U: as the expansion from the thinner pipe as the coolant exits into the larger one, creates low pressure which pulls the water out of the long pipe and thus bleeds the rad). The positioning of the join of the long pipe to the U is also critical in relation to the venturi.

As you know, not having any ABS cluttering up the engine bay, by siting my header tank higher than the engine, I have done away with the bleed pipe and have a spoutless crosspipe, and have got rid of loads of not-needed small diameter pipes that are also no longer needed!

Hi Greg

Yikes!

£125! maybe I'll try and rebuild it as a Winter Project but are those swaged bumps on the end of the pipes really necessary?

Hi Grant

If only they had made them out of Stainless Steel!

Getting harder to get hold of essential parts these days

They are if you want to keep the coolant inside the system! Braising/soldering a small brass olive over the pipe end will do it though, if no place is available to flare it properly.

Really? I would have thought pressure and a pump would negate any need for a Venturi.

The venturi are to ensure the water flows the correct way through the rail, and into the expansion tank.

Without the venturi, which is created by the two different pipe diameters making up the U piece of the bleed pipe, the high pressure water from the B bank water manifold that feeds into the U piece would just pressurise the two ends of the bleed pipe equally, rather than create a lower pressure section in the part that feeds into the header tank.

Much better now.

That is no way to describe your new X300 Steve, and that is not the reason the quack gave you the jollop! And just you wait, a spouted crosspipe is in your future!
