Default Chance to buy 95 AJ16 73k off road for 3 years

I have a chance to buy this. It has been off the road for 3 years because of an elderly driver and has been parked in the garage. Once jumped it started right up, engine sounds good and no warning lights. Exhaust is loud and needs fix. Have only been able to move in the driveway and seems OK. Body is very clean but dusty and the interior looks like new. Anything about these that should have me particularly concerned about these having sat? It will cost me around $6,750 if I buy it. Thank you for any advice in advance. I have a day to decide. It is not a Celebration but does have the AJ16. My last XJS was an 89 I owned almost 30 years ago.

Go for it, providing you can DIY the maintenance and any fixes needed as they come along, yourself. If you do not enjoy that sort of thing, do not buy.

That's a great spec, AJ16 and the later less-troublesome brake system. AJ16s are indestructible. As long as the body is corrosion-free, everything else is fixable.

Buy it!

Good luck

Do it.

There isn't much I can think of that this forum cannot help you troubleshoot and fix.

Check the idle. Should be 720rpm warm in park and 580 in gear.
Check the air conditioning. Not a problem to fix if bad, but you should know what you're signing up for.
Check cruise control.
No check engine light after a drive? Then you're home free....well, $6,750.

That's about it. You'll end up changing all the fluids. I'd recommend changing the hoses, especially the ******* hose just under the intake.

I wouldn't pay any mind to any leaks coming from the drivers side engine of the car. There are about three well known leak points that are common and straightforward to fix.

Hi- I live in NH. If you don’t buy this car, please tell me about it so I can buy it. I put 200k on my 95 before the paint fell off. It was still running when it slid down a muddy hill in the yard and hit a tree. -John

That is one of greatest cars ever made. The engine, brake system, electronics all are super reliable. The smooth ride, responsive transmission and quiet open air driving experience is unmatched by anything you can buy today. Then there's the color combo. Wow! She's a winner.!

Buy It!! Good price too, if it has any service history all the better.
If its been off the road for 3 years (even in dry storage) check the bushes and under side rubber work, and put new tyres on it too and dont forget to flush out the fuel system with fresh fuel and filters.

Good luck it looks like a really good find. Well done
