Why didn't you just buy a new pipe? They are still available... And better than a bodge which can still cause problems if it fails. I would NEVER bodge on the coolant system. Any "epoxy patch" is still a patch. Temporary? Sure. For ever? Never.

Hi Warrjon

There are 3 Copper Washers in that Stack.

One on either side of the Spacer and one at the Top of the Banjo Bolt, which is an 'Original One' that I thought it better not to disturb, as it was such a tight fit.

It you look very carefully you can just about see it under the Banjo Bolt head.

Hi Daim

I didn't know that you could still buy those New Bleed Pipes.

Fortunately mine was OK as only the Hose Clip had failed.

In my experience Jaguars never have one problem at a time. There's almost always a couple.

did not know they were still available... the "Bodge" worked fine... look good and will out last the rest of the pipe and If you send me a link I will buy one though I like the paint I put on mine...
all three ends had weep holes where the rubber covered but the clamp was not that far up....
I believe the failure happen because the very top run across the radiator had developed three pin hole leaks this kept the coolant level too low so there was vapor not coolant and that let it corrode...
I will look for a new pipe, if you have a link I will thank you for it...
the after picture says it all... two years no leaks!
I check... weekly as I left one or two old hoses on

just looked through
https://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/u...ooling-system/
I failed to find that pipe... help requested!

Default Bleed pipe

Here is the JCP link:
https://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/u...-5-3-6-0-litre

It is NLA but they do turn up on ebay in the UK very occasionally. My own view is that your repair is excellent, and very likely stronger than the original!

Hi Jonathan

I think your repair is excellent and in no way could be considered to be a 'Bodge'

If New Parts are unavailable or very hard to come by, then you have to do what you must do and try and overcome the problem the best way you can.

It not as if its out of sight and therefore very easy to keep an eye on and being a bit Paranoid, I always do a 'Pre-Flight Check' before I do a trip.

My Bleed Pipe is in very good condition but even so I had a Hose Clip fail and that was a Stainless Steel one.

Anything can happen on an XJS just the same as any other Car.

Default 'Cherry Blossom' is no more and died with a 'Dropped Valve'

My Red Car is a dead Car and died with a dropped Valve and as for me I'm too upset to Cry, after all the work I've done on her.

Yesterday She Started on the Button and ran like a New Car, which She almost was at only 24,950 Miles from New.

But today was a different Story as when I went to turn her over, all Hell seemed to break loose and it sounded like a Hammer that was banging on an Anvil.

Although I never managed to get the Engine to run, as She was turning over I could hear that Metallic Clattering Sound that everybody dreads.

And so its looking like the end for Her.

R.I.P. 'Cherry Blossom' April 25th 2017.

I would not call it the end. Just swap the engine and keep going.

If I were there I'd buy you a drink. Four times.

Then I'd tell you I may know where an engine is and ask what you've planned this weekend.

I hope you choose to double down on Cherry Blossom. Too nice to let go! Bedsides, what else are you going to spend your time on that looks so good and gives you the same happiness?

Don't give up, look at it as an opportunity to pull the heads and do some work. Aluminium can be welded so any damage to the head can be repaired.

Or buy a 6.0L

Grublogger recycled Jaguar parts - engines and engine components

These guys have one for 800quid (I don't have GBP sign on my keyboard).

I agree. Walk away for a bit to settle your nerves. Go on the prowl for a replacement motor and make that your next adventure while you can still enjoy your v12 convertible at the same time.

Gah. Sad news; sorry to hear it.

I agree with others. Walk away today and mull things over tomorrow. You have options. It'll be OK

Cheers

Never give up, never surrender!
And activate the Omega 13 (code for a new engine).

OB, I hate to hear this. Keep your head up Sir. These cars can be so enjoyable, yet so frustrating at times.

I'm sorry OB. But that is nothing that can't not be repaired... Engine out heads off, do the engine up nicely

Are you actually really sure it is a valve seat that has dropped? I mean, these engines can make many, many different noises.

See if you can borrow an endoscope or buy a cheapie on eBay/Amazon to plug into a laptop. You will be able to see a lot more.

Think positivly! If a seat has dropped, then the next challenge has been accepted: Remove heads, have them sorted out.

Iirc Barratt had an offer on some HE heads a few weeks ago. Something like £300 per head (NOS). Of course new valves and springs were required).
