The interior courtesy lighting has a 10 second time delay relay once the car door is closed. There really is no interior lighting and the instruments are very dim. The 10 second courtesy lighting is not long enough to find and insert the ignition key. I am upgrading the interior lighting and changing the time delay relay so the courtesy lights stay on for at least 20 seconds and keep the new accent lighting on. The door switch is a normally open. I am guessing the relay is a mechanically held, normally closed, 10 second off delay relay. Does anyone have the specification on the original relay and wiring diagram?
I don't have a diagram, but they are simple enough when you open them up. The usual way they work is a capacitor charges and will hold the contacts open as the capacitor discharges. The size of the capacitor determines how long the contacts can stay open, so you can change the delay time by changing the capacitor.
The original is a 16V 22uF capacitor, I don't know if it's a linear relationship, so maybe a 47uF would give a bit more than 20 seconds of delay? I don't know.
