Does me xjs have air con?
Hey guys,
I'm not sure if my xjs has aircon? It doesn't say the word aircon inside, just the temperatures and fan speeds.
Did they all have air con? Do I need to re gas it to work?
Is it even there?
How can I tell?
Thanks!

Hi Duke
Just behind the Radiator should be quite a Massive Big Air Con Motor that is driven off one of the Belts which is about the size of a Self Starter!
But whether its all connected up and working only you will know
Here is a Pic of the 'Air Con Motor' half way down page: 8 of my 'Cherry Blossom' Restoration Thread including a write up on how I changed the Spark Plugs on my V12 with lots of Photos

Yes, you have air conditioning. From the front, in your pictures the smallest cooler is for the engine oil, behind that is the AC condenser, the tube above it is the receiver/dryer and finally behind that is the radiator.
Looks a bit dirty and corroded, so if the condenser actually hold pressure and your AC works is another matter!

You have a climate control system, not a heater/ AC system. Set the temperature you want, and the maximum fan speed ( usually position 2) and the system does the rest, changing between cooling and heating as needed.
Depending on what your ambient temperature is, you can set it to max cold ( 65 on the temp and fan 3) and wait a few seconds and see if you get cold air out of the vents. A thermometer is better than your hand to tell temperature, as humidity can make the air feel colder than it really is.
There should be a belt driven compressor on the right side of the engine, and you should be able to hear the engine slow down a little bit when the compressor engages, and if you can see it, the nose of the compressor should be spinning.
If the system isn't working because the refrigerant has leaked out, you`ll need a number of special tools to find a leak, repair it and then evacuate and recharge the system. I don't know what the situation is in the UK, but in Canada you need to be a licensed refrigeration tech to be able to buy the refrigerant.

Yes I have the owners manual.
That radiator needs to come out and get a good clean urgently.
