Electric Aux Fan and Temp sensor/switch questions
Allan,
Tks for the info posted on the other thread re the temp range. Just to further confuse things, Greg's AJ16 may have the switch down the bottom, but my AJ16 has it at the top part.
The wiring fix to run the fan all the time with the aircon is common practice here in the UK.

Thanks to everyone who posted on this very old thread. I've encountered the problem on my 1996 AJ16 and thought something was wrong (overheating due to needle between N and H), but this old thread has put my mind at ease. I thought my aux fan switch was defective, but is actually working as designed.

Greg threw a rock or 2 on the roof and got me out from under one of the Jags.
What Jag are you wanting to alter, your profile states an XJ40, and they are quite different from the XJS as far as wiring and modules etc are concerned.
Warren,
My thoughts exactly, but there is a dim bell (yeh I know) in my head from the daughters XJ40, and when we fitted thermo fans to it, and the wiring was odd, as was the car, but it was not simple, I think??????
I will ask her, she will remember.

Thanks, so if I run the trigger wire from the a/c to the trigger wire of the fan, it will work?
On the flip side, if the fan turns on from being to hot, the a/c will turn on because the trigger is connected from the fan to a/c. True?

DO NOT DO THIS, the AC compressor is switched by the AC ECM and you will damage the ECM if you do this.
Use the wire that switches the AC compressor on to also switch a relay on, this wire will go to pin 85 and pin 86 to ground.
Then wire to the + terminal on the firewall with a fuse (mine uses a 30amp as the 20amp would blow when the fan switched) to pin 87.
Then pin 30 goes to the fan.
NOTE: A 40amp horn relay will do the job. Be aware some relays have a protection diode on pin 85 or pin 86 if you get one of these post the specs as these are polarity sensitive for the switching coil.
Do you happen to have the part number for this switch? with the lower temp threshold?
