Default Facelift steering rack rebuild kits?

I have a 1994 6.0 and occasionally it completely loses the assist in the steering, usually when doing slow speed manoeuvring, like parallel parking or driving through a parking lot at low speed.

I have replaced the belt on the PS pump and checked that the belt tension is correct, but I'm guessing that it is an internal seal bypassing fluid at high pressure. Any ideas where I can get a rebuild kit for the ZF racks? I see a few places do offer rebuild services, but they are out of country and shipping a rack overseas and back gets very expensive, so I'd rather do it myself. Any tips for a seal kit much appreciated!

That listing is for an Adwest rack, the ZF is different. It was only used on the 93-96 XJS, so if you see a listing that goes back further it's the wrong parts.

Jaguar made a seal kit for the earlier rack, but not for the ZF ones.

If you can't fend a rebuild kit maybe you should contact a breaker in either Canada or the United States.

https://xks.com/i-7151200-jaguar-rac...34-3018-1.html ?

The ebay link above in my first reply was supposed to be for the supplier's store, sorry, I just searched rack kits even if the exact listing isn't on ebay right now it may be worth calling or emailing them. I'd find it hard to believe if a kit was not available.

Most of the time you can get lip seals and O rings anywhere. You just need dimensions and get seals made for petroleum based contact. O rings you measure by ID and cross section. Hyd. Lip seals usually have an ID/OD and depth dimension written on them. Example 50-30-3.
In this case for $30 you cant go wrong. Isnt worth chasing elsewhere.

The Gates kit contains all the seals needed? I can get that for about half the price that XK's quoted. Thanks!

This kit is for X100 XK8. One seal is not for XJS ZF rack. All other is for XJS .

I will let you know when I get one. The car is in storage for the winter, so I'll not be tearing the rack apart any time soon! Actually, I think I'll check the relief valve in the pump first and go from there.

I re-read the beginning of your topic and I think that your problem is in the pump. I had the same malfunction. When the cold steering wheel spins freely and gets heavier after heating. There is a wear on the impeller of the pump. You need a repair kit and impellers or a new pump.

I have 160,000km on the car, so the pump could very well be worn. It's a standard GM pump, so parts are easily available for me on Rockauto.com

Jagboi64, assuming your repair went well. Here's another reference part number for the record: https://xks.com/i-7151200-jaguar-rac...34-3018-1.html. Be aware of the special order and delivery time warning.

The car is still in winter storage, I have not looked at it. This weekend was around -25C and we had about 20cm of snow, so the cars are going nowhere!

...................given the current rate of decent in AB, its not only the cars that are going nowhere.
