Factory radio
I have a 1994 Jaguar XJS convertible. I load trunk CD exchanger with CDs. When I press Tape CD button it does not play CD. Is it just defective button on radio? Any other troubleshooting thoughts ?
i have found that moisture in the CD player can cause problem, blowing warm air in using a hair dryer cured it for me
There is power to CD changer in trunk since I can insert CD cartridge. The car is new to me. Should a cassette tape automatically play or do I still need to hit the CD Tape button? That would allow me to troubleshoot if button is defective. I did have to slide the radio out to get the serial number but i was really careful. Not sure if cable may have come loose then. But I still have power at CD unit.
After inserting the CD cartridge you need to press the CD button. The unit should then try and load the first CD. If it cannot load or play it you will get a No disk message on the head unit. It will then try an load CD 2 etc.
If you open the trunk you will hear it loading the CD's. .
You can load a specific CD by pressing 1,2,3 etc.

Don't think the problem is the radio. Take the black cover off your player . Look at the input cable and check the eight wires and ground leading up to the input pin. These wires are very thin and you might have one broken. Also clean the lens on your laser while you are there. Youtube has good info on player repairs.
On the radio screen you should get cd info such as disk 1, 2, 3 etc, No disk. No disk repeated indicates a dirty laser lens
