Default Fan shroud mounting question

Hi !

Take a peek at this illustration and note the mounting tabs at the top of the shroud.....

Cooling Fan Cowl-Mechanical-5.3 Litre - Parts For XJS from (V)139052 to (V)179736 | Jaguar Classic Parts UK

Here's my question:

Should there be rubber cushions at those mounting points? The illustration doesn't show any, and frankly I don't recall removing any. But I have a nagging thought that those holes should have those round grommet-like cushions as used in various other locations.

Thanks for any help

Cheers
DD

Hi Doug,

As I removed mine, there were no rubber mounts or rings or so for them...

So I'd say you ought to let go

Hi Doug

No rubber mountings on mine and the Shroud has never been out.

Both of mine were rubberless waaaaaay back before Efans.

I know those rubber units you remember well. They are not used here.

On my 1985 the shroud fixing holes had rubber cotton reels OEM. The holes on the shroud fixing brackets were quite large, and without the rubber and a washer on top before the fixing nut, the shroud would have fallen off. Maybe it was changed at some point?
if you have an main electric fan in place of the engine driven one, attached to the shroud, some sort of damping is quite useful to prevent vibrations into the body.

Yeah, the large holes are just begging for the 'cotton reel' mounts! That's why I had to ask !

But.....

The large holes, left rubberless, give you quite a bit of adjustability when positioning the shroud

I'm using all original stuff. The 3 legged e-fan mounting has the rubber cushions on each foot, as you know, I'm sure.

I'm going with 'rubberless' mounting on the shrouds themselves

Cheers and thanks

Nothing a bit of bending on those thin gauge shroud brackets will not fix, Doug! The legendary NVH experts of Jaguar's illustrious past will be turning in their graves...

Maybe just a grumble or two.

The e-fan assembly is mounted to the 3-leg bracket using the rubber cushions, and the bracket-to-shroud mounting uses the rubber cushions as well.
