Wink Is That It? Fan speed!

I turned my heater fan blower speed knob on my xjs to the defrost position and there's only a HIGH fan speed available and it's loud and after awhile not necessary to be on high and loud. but if you move the switch it leaves the defroster selaction .What gives. Is that it, only high speed on defrost? Tell me it's not true. That there's a way to keep it there and lower the fan speed at the same time. PPlllease. Otherwise.... that's just nuts!Anybody know the poop on this? Thanks, Bud

On an HE, anyway, there is only the one high-speed setting on defrost, as you describe. This closes all flaps except for the screen and shoves all hot air and aircon air to the screen at full fan speed. However, once clear, returning to 'auto' or 'high' should keep the screen clear, especially if you use the slide control (centre underneath the radio) to favour warm air upwards.

Greg is right, of course.

All the XJ sedans and the XJSs were like this, with either the Delanair MKII or MkIII systems.

It is odd and annoying at first but there is a certain logic to it, especially given that the climate control system runs the compresor at all times to dehumidify the air.

Even my X300 does the same. The only difference is a fan-speed manual over-ride....which I don't use.

Cheers

This one thing I hate about the CC. 30°C heat and raining and I can only get hot air to the windscreen, one tends to hot under the collar quickly.

Understandably :-)

The MkII/III Climate control is great most of the time but the lack of driver controlled over-rides can be a problem under certain conditions.

Personally I'd be quite content with manual control heating/air conditioning, even though it's a step down from my very lofty station in life. I appreciate luxury touches but making a occasional adjustments on a couple dials and sliding a lever from hot to cold is something I think I can manage even in my weak and feeble condition.

As said when put on priority it blows on full for defrost. Other wise when the cooling/heating system is on at all it blows to every vent there is.

This can be really annoying and if its cold or humid enough fogs the front and back window with the a/c on

My experience, FWIW, is that the climate control does a great job of keeping all the glass fog free.....thanks to the fact that all incoming air is dehumidified first

OTOH, my environment is usually cold and wet or warm and dry.....not as challenging, window-wise, as some other climates :-)
